I just finished reading Fr Amorth’s “An exorcist tells his story” and he refers to these items.

What does it mean for water, oil and salt to be “exorcised”?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Well, the idea is that demons can take up dwelling in objects alongside humans and animals. Basically in the old rites we would exorcise the object - take it away from Satan’s purposes - and then consecrate it to God’s purposes by blessing it.

You would be suprised. just like catholics have holy water, satanists “curse” water as well as other substances.

I do know I learned a while back about blessed salts and I used them to sprinkle around the outside of my home when I felt some evil spirits in my home. I had read in the Bible that evil spirits will dwell in our homes that are unprotected or even our souls if we allow them in. Holy Water can be swolled, salts can be added to foods or they both can be sprinkled throughout your homes to keep evil spirits away. Of course, prayer and fasting are always accompanied when you use these tools to fight evil spirits. Holy oils are used when your sick and you need to be anointed by a priest. He simply blesses you by offering prayers for your healing and doing some beautiful prayers while he places a cross on your forward as a sign to Satan… you belong to God. Jesus was blessed with holy oils when he died… a way to keep Satan away and to be covered in blessings. Hope this helps. God Bless!

Simply put, water, oil, and salt are creatures (that is, creations) of God, and Satan hates everything that God has created. Satan will attempt to distort, corrupt, and destroy anything that God has created. He especially seeks to attack humans, those creatures who are made in God’s own image. To that end, he will use other creatures (even base creations like salt and water and oil) to get to humans.

And for that reason, the salt, water, and oil are exorcised and blessed before they are used.

I don’t know if they do it other times of the year, but our local EF parish does water/salt exorcisms at Epiphany. It gave me chills-in a good way, of course. 😃

Something to remember for next year, maybe.

Thanks! I’ll have to look in to this.
