I’ve read The Rite and Hostage to the Devil. It was while reading Hostage to the Devil that I was attracted to the Catholic Church. Later, after seeing the movie version of the The Rite (which I saw before reading Hostage to the Devil), I discovered another person who has had the experience of smelling flowers when their is no physical thing present to produce such a smell (at the end of the paperback version of The Rite). I’ve learned many good things and have been brought closer to God from the knowledge that I’ve gained reading exorcism books and I would like to read more. Perhaps I am attracted to these kinds of things because of my psychotic episodes (the smell of flowers couldn’t have been a hallucination for me because my brother smelled it too) and what I consider to have been experiences of demonic obsession (though I don’t think I was ever possessed). It’s amazing really, I went from believing in the LDS church to being atheist, to being agnostic, to being spiritual, to learning of the occult, to being the victim of demonic obsession, to believing in the Holy Trinity and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I think I will stick with Catholicism (it took me a while after believing in the Holy Trinity and the Atonement to come to Catholicism). I’m glad the Catholic Church appoints exorcists and I find it good to have an appreciation for the good work that exorcists do, which is of course not of their own power, but by Christ.

Im very glad you found your way home in our Mother Church. Remember to stay in the Catholic Church no matter what, study more about our faith, The Church Fathers, The Magisterium, The bible, and of course that related to exorcism if that is what made u find your way home.

Just becarefull when going into exorcism stuff…<_<

According to my knowledge the best to exorcise are Catholics because of the Rituals we have delivered from the Bible and the Sacred Tradition. Since only Catholic Priests are validly ordained and in most cases it is required a Catholic Priest (In the person of Christ) to drive out demons, the Power to exorcise can fully be found only in the Catholic Church.

Yes, we’re happy that you are coming to the true faith. Still be warned, though, it’s a bad idea to toy with demons. I think you know that.

It’s good to see another person coming into the Church! Exorcism certainly is a fascinating subject, especially for me since I’m training to be a priest. If you can find it, I recommend Exorcism and the Church Militant. It recently went out of print, so it might be hard to find a copy for a good price, but if you can then get it. It’s a fantastic book on exorcism.

Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and priests from a few other groups in schism from the Church also have valid orders, so they by extension can exorcise demons.

You misunderstand what demonic obsession is. The person is not the one who is obsessed with demons. Rather, it is a state in which demons are attacking a person (usually in a spiritual way), but in which the person is not possessed.

Yea they do have valid orders, its just that our church is more into exorcism than any other one and has more experience regarding this issue. It is very common to point out at the Catholic Church when it comes to exorcism, rather to look up at the Orthodox Church or anoy other one in schism.

Yes, I found that it is quite disturbing. The Rite isn’t as disturbing to me at least. Hostage to the Devil is more in depth than The Rite, although The Rite has important info on the different types of demonic attack that can occur that Hostage to the Devil more or less simply alludes to, without actually labelling and defining one after the other.

Hostage to the devil was a real eye opener for me. It confirmed what I always thought about certain types of spirituality or worship of “earth” or “self”

The book brought me from laughing and shaking my head at the new age movement to being downright scared of the prevalance and evil of the" new age" enlightenment.
I still get chills when thinking of some scenes in that book, like the wedding on the beach.

I just started reading “Interview with an Exorcist.” This one goes into the theory much more than the other two books I’ve read. And by theory I don’t mean that the stuff it goes into is any less true than fact.

you know, maybe this is what is most disturbing to me, in a good way, because I use to be so much involved with all that new age stuff…it is so rampant today…and this book was written in the 70s…makes one wonder just how much everyday folks are being oppressed in today’s world…just rambling :o
