Is there any rite of exorcism conducted by muslims to those possesed by demonic spirits?

What about stories of people being exorcised from true demonic possession by muslims?

do a search for the book “the exorcist tradition in islam” (i think that’s the title of the book). it’s written by dr. bilal philips. he also has an abridged translation of a treatise by ibn taimiyyah entitled, “ibn taymeeyah’s essay on the jinn.” i’m sure you’ll find some stuff on the net from those two works.

i have personally taken part in one. and i know many others who have as well. i also personally know one muslim scholar who specialises in exorcisms and the branches of knowledge related to them. he lives in jordan and comes to visit us to give lectures whenever he is able to.

How could you tell when a person is really possesed by evil spirits? What did you do to exorcise the person?

there are ways, and there are many people who have been exorcised, even the locals here in Portland know of a few people who were exorcised, but I think it was in Corvallis. In Islam the manner is much simpler than the catholic manner, it doesnt take anywhere near as long, and theres not all the prayers you have to go through, but I. myself, am unfamiliar with all the details.

the following is quoted from “the exorcist tradition in islaam” by dr. abu ameenah bilal philips. (the points in red are the ones i personally have witnessed for myself or personally know people who have been/are possessed that have experienced them.)

signs of possession
according to the experience of most muslim exorcists, the signs of possession are as follows:

a) change of personality

1. rapid mood shifts; uncontrollable laughter or crying
2. depression
3. prefers solitude

b) physical change

1. preternatural strength
2. epileptiform convulsions
3. catatonic symptoms; falling
4. clouding of consciousness; anesthesia to pain
5. changed voice
6. psychosomatic pains, especially migrane headaches
7. loss of certain faculties

c) mental changes

1. glossolalia; understanding unknown languages
2. preternatural knowledge
3. recurrent nightmares; insomnia

d) spiritual changes

1. strong reaction to Qur’anic recitation or the athaan
2. an adverse reaction when touched by oil on which the Qur’aan has been read, or when bathed in water over which Qur’aan has been read, or when water over which Qur’aan has been read is drunk.
3. abandonment of religious practices

What did you do to exorcise the person?

in the exorcism i took part in, the person who was possessed had the Quran read upon him for a number of days.

I,ve seen exorcism done by muslims, christians, hindu and buddhist.

I,ve seen exorcism done by muslims, christians, hindu and buddhist.

There is only one thing that distinguishes a Christian exorcism from the others and that is complete deliverance and grace is infused upon a person.

The others, as I have read books about exorcism, just either came back to the old state, or the families were altogether oppressed by the same evil spirits that inhabited the person.
