Exorcism outside the Catholic Church

These two may be dumb questions.
I just watched in YouTube a video called:

“The Exorcist: True Story of a possessed boy - Updated 1/3”

I went through parts 1 to 3. Basically, every time I see a movie, or hear about exorcisms that truly happened in the past, many important cases, its always the catholic priests getting involved. Like if you watch the link I posted, this boy (who was born in a Lutheran family) was attended initially by a Lutheran Pastor. This man fails to do anything really. Then the family “calls” the Catholic Church. And two priests manage to fully exorcise the kid driving the devil out. The Lutheran kid was converted to the Catholic Church. Ive seen a lot more similar cases where the possessed are outside of the Church, yet they call the Catholic Church to solve the issue.

So my question is, is it me or do people (even non-Catholics) rely a lot more on the authority of Catholic Church when it comes to exorcisms? And also, have there been any cases of exorcism that were solved by protestant pastors and not Catholic Priests?

I think Protestants are quite actively involved in ‘deliverance ministry’. I don’t know how effective they are. I would guess statistics are hard to come by 😉
 
I would also like to know the opinions of protestants. How do you guys deal with a demonic possession? Exactly what do you do.
 
Well I was raised in the Church of God in the deep South and every time I asked too many questions, I wound up with a whole group of people laying hands on me and praying the demons out of me. 😦 I never did learn not to be vocal about my questions.
From my childhood experience, anytime someone felt they were being oppressed or bothered my demons everyone would lay hands and pray for them-command the devil to leave sort of thing. There was never a big ‘exorcism’ or anything.
 
Traditional priests (FSSP, SSPX, ICKSP,etc) are actually ordained as exorcists. Novus ordo priests are not ordained as exorcists.
 
I believe you aware that the “exorcist” ministry conferred to a seminarian is not the same ministry a priest perform when doing exorcism. The former was a ministry to pray over the catechumens, the former is to free someone/something from evil possession. You need to be a priest and receiving authorization from the bishop to become an exorcist in the truest sense. Every bishop is an exorcist by the way.

In current formation scheme, seminarian will be ordained (conferred) to become an acolyte. Under Pope Paul direction, all previous minor orders duty and power are transferred to this one single ministry (including the separate exorcist ministry). Thus, yes, all “Novus Ordo” priests too are ordained exorcist since they are ordained to become acolyte.

I personally witnessed multiple exorcisms on the morning of April 13, 2012. The service was performed in an Orthodox church by an Orthodox priest. If there were Catholics in attendance, they did NOT make their presence known. Exorcism of demons and renunciation of heresies are regularly done in advance of converts being received into Orthodoxy. On this particular morning, the weather cooperated with the Church, providing lightning, thunder and driving rain. Having never been to one of these services before, I found the whole thing rather impressive. Indeed, more so than any motion picture.

Can someone please answer the issue about this Teen girls exorcism article? Im really quite confuse as to who can perform (exorcism). Can anyone really do it?

Nope. A true excorcism can only be done by a priest specially trained to do this (very few priests are), and with the full consent of the local bishop.

Anyone can attempt and possibly exorcise demons. However, only the bishops, and those priests under the authority of the bishop, have the authority of the Church to exorcise demons. We laymen who submit to the authority of the Catholic Church do not attempt exorcisms.

Mark 9:38-39 Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.” But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.
 
A good friend of mine is an Orthodox Priest. IIRC, all Orthodox Priests are trained in exorcism. He told me point blank that he’s performed 5 exorcisms in his time as a Priest and he still has trouble sleeping at night because of what he encountered while performing them…and this is a very Godly man.
 
Bob Larson, one-time musician turned Christian radio host, was once enamored of the Roman Catholic Rite of Exorcism. Of course, as a Protestant in a Pentecostal or Charismatic tradition, he did not believe these rites could or should be restricted only to Catholic priests.

He claimed to have used the rite in exorcisms, but Larson was more of a showman than someone to take seriously. I did think it interesting he would talk about and quote from the Catholic Rite of Exorcism, however.
 
In 1974, the big talk was “The Exorcist”. I happened to be a library asst. at my school when 3 pastors came for a Q and A. One pastor had claimed to have seen and exorcised hundreds of demons. Many persons in attendance snickered. Another didn’t claim quite as many, but still a great number. Again, more snickering, after all we were only teens. To my surprise, my own priest was also asked about exorcisms and his answer, if I may paraphrase, was “I have never seen a demon or someone possessed b a demon and I hope I never do, but if and when this happens, here is what The Church does…” He went on to describe what and who an exorcist is and that he doesn’t just show up without a lot in inquiry and medical tests. There was silence in the room. It seems that teens can be quite well behaved when they hear a rational speaker who isn’t there to gush about his own exploits.

That being said, I do believe in miracles and exorcisms and will concede that these often happen outside the RCC. I am glad to hear about these instances, but I’m none too sure if card tricks count.
