Best cases of Exorcisms with the best evidence? Thank you all!

Are you asking for historical instances of exorcism being performed that have good evidence for having been real exorcisms of real demons?

The details of individual exorcisms are not usually made public out of understandable concerns for the privacy of the person who needed the exorcism, and their family and so forth. You’ll probably find information on individual exorcisms scanty for this reason.

Aelred is quite right. However, you may find Fr. Amorth’s book An Exorcist Tells His Story to be interesting. He was (is?) the chief exorcist of Rome. In his book, he goes into great detail on what types of demonic influences there are, along with many insights as to what can cause said influences. Further, without indicating any specifics (Who, where, what year, etc) he does go into details of what had occurred at several exorcisms. It was a very interesting read.

Arguably, the best “evidenced” exorcisms in history were the ones in the New Testament. The credibility of the N. T. books is awfully high, for Christians at least. The credibility of the exorcist is very high also, reducing the chance he might have been deceived or wrong in his diagnosis. With exorcisms after the beginning of Christianity, there is the chance the subject is acting out a mental illness based on his earlier (bad) Christian upbringing. This is not a factor here, no one yet had a Christian upbringing.

With some modern exorcists, there is the accusation they did this to further their church careers, or even to sell books. I don’t think the exorcists in the gospels or Acts ever got paid. Some modern exorcists were accused of being frauds. A New Testament exorcist was criticized for successfully performing exorcisms - for other reasons; even his critics did not deny the exorcisms were successful.

Well, it depends what you mean by best evidence or best cases. I’v been involved in many Exorcisms and deliverance cases (which are not the same). The two books that were referenced a lot in Seminary were, “An Exorcist tells His story” and “Hostage to the Devil.” A warning, don’t read just out of curiosity, read for the intent to resist evil. And always pray before so nothing follows or confuses you. The Lord keep you and bless you.

Read Hostage to the Devil by Malachi Martin. You wont be disappointed. Five cases are presented, of which Dr Martin interviewed all parties involved and was given the transcripts to the cases. He changed the names of the involved, that is all.

Thank you all! I guess just a list of books would do. Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut!

I too recommend the books by Fr. Malachi Martin and Fr. Gabriele Amorth; both very high ranking and intelligent men within the Church.
