Christ is Risen!

I just wanted to let people know that I have a new internet radio program on www.catholicradiointernational.com. It is called, “A Body of Truth.” In this program I address the hot button issues of our day by entering the “H-zone” (the “Honesty Zone”) and I invite audiences to put on the “Sacramental-Liturgical worldview glasses.” The program incorporates alot of John Paul II’s theology of the body.

I also still host “Light of the East Radio” which is carried on many stations throughout the USA and can be accessed on www.byzantinecatholic.com

Father,

I’m excited to note that you are still broadcasting but am sorry to note that we can no longer receive your broadcasts locally on the radio. I will appeal to Relevant Radio to return you to the air.

What?!?

Off the air in Chicagoland? When did this happen? I have been recommending that program to people for a long time!

I have as well. We used to always listen the broadcasts on our way home from Church. Relevant Radio in Chicagoland dropped it about a month ago. I don’t know why.

My Aunt emailed irRelevant Radio and voiced her distress at Light of the East being canceled and then sent her an email back basically saying that they wanted to give other shows a chance in order to diversify their station. I believe that they have succeeded in taking a giant step backwards. I haven’t even been able to write a rational email to them yet. Fortunately, I have no problems with listening to Light of the East on my iPod and I really enjoy listening to the new program while I am doing homework at my desk. I even recommended the new show to a few of my college friends who are interested in Theology of the Body.

Peace,
Katie

I did not receieve any reason from Relevant Radio as to why they dropped “Light of the East.” Our program is carried on many other stations in the USA thanks in large part to EWTN radio. We are also on Ave Maria Radio out of Ann Arbor Michigan and you can listen to Light of the East on our website: www.byzantinecatholic.com

But this brings up a vital point that has ecumenical implications:.

When there is a presentation of the “Catholic” Faith in whatever medium, there necessarily must be an inclusion of the Eastern “lung” of the “Catholic” Church. Otherwise the presentation is only of the “Latin Rite” but it is not fully “Catholic.”
It is like claiming to present a program on the Human race and only talking about men and never mentioning women. This would not be an honest presentation of the “human race.” It would only be a presentation of one of the two genders of the human race.

Unity between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches has been on the top of the list of priorities for JPII and Pope Benedict XVI. When the Orthodox Churches consistently see the Eastern Catholic Churches completely discounted or overlooked in “Catholic” presentations even though the Eastern Catholic Churches have literally shed blood for loyalty to the “Catholic Church” and the Pope of Rome, it only confirms the reasons why the Orthodox Churches do not want to reunite with Rome.
They simply point to this type of disregard of the Eastern Churches by the Latine Rite and say, “Is this how we too would be treated if there was reunion?” How can we blame the Orthodox for thinking this way when the reason for their hesitancy is so glaring such as when presentations of the “Catholic” Church are absent of any Eastern Catholic presence.

I just sent an email to Relevant Radio pleading with them to bring back the only Eastern Catholic broadcast on their network. Please, others do it as well. Here’s their email address. mailto:info@relevantradio.com

There are many issues as to why the Orthodox might be hesitant to seek unity with Rome. But your question is a valid one.

I think the 2 Eastern Catholic programs on Relevant Radio (“Light of the East” and “Theology of the Body”) were merely victims of the economic situation that continues to hurt the network since 2006.

Relevant Radio has laid off about a third of its personnel since 2006 because of the dearth of adversting revenues upon which it principally relies for the continued airing of its programs.

It continues to cover Chicagoland with 3 broadcast stations: 950 AM for Chicago (its lease with 820 AM WAIT was not renewed by the license owners), 930 AM for Chicago and the Western Suburbs, and 1270 AM for Chicago Southern Suburbs and Northwest Indiana. It reverted back to its core programming.

Amado

P.S.

I checked with EWTN’s Radio and its 2008 programming carries “Light of the East” every Sunday at 1130 a.m. on 12 broadcast stations mainly in Central and Southern Illinois.

I love Relevant, but they do some inexplicable things at times.

I never understood why they dropped the Catholic Answers Live broadcast either. A few years back they hired a long time guest as CEO and he suddenly vanished a few months later with no explanation or discussion. Such things bother me.

As best I can tell, they are trying to expand their own production until they reach the point where they only air programs they produced themselves. Given that state of the Church today, I suppose it is an understandable policy for an apostolate that values obedience and faithfulness to the authentic teaching of the Church.

But it sure is a bummer and I miss hearing Fr. Loya on the radio.
(No ipod here!) Father, are they not having you do the occasional TOB spot anymore either?

No Fr. Thomas on the radio? IS OUTRAGE!!! :banghead:

I used to listen to Light of the East on the way home from the Novus Ordo Mass that I sometimes attended when I couldn’t get to my Eastern Parish in Indy.

Christ is Risen! (For those on the Gregorian Calendar)

I want to thank all of you for your supportive comments regarding my radio programs. In deference to all of your kindness I am compelled to share some things with you regarding Relevant Radio and my programs.

The reason that Relevant Radio gave to me as to why I am no longer speaking on the theology of the body on Thursdays was because they began to think that the venue of radio was not adequate for such presentations. I had been doing the Thursday segments for over two years. They said that the morning drive time audience, which is when my segment was broadcast, was the type that would move in and out of listening such as mothers getting their children in and out of cars on the way to school, etc. Relevant Radio believed that this had the potential for some listeners to only catch incomplete versions of my presentations and due to the subject matter could be confused or even upset.
They were concerned about children catching bits and pieces of the subject matter although I did take great pains not to be too explicit about sexual terms when related subjects came up especially with callers.

Relevant Radio told me that they were dropping my Thursday segment on the theology of the body and asked me to instead do one minute meditations on the theology of the body. In the meantime they said that “Light of the East” would still be carried on Relevant Radio in Chicago and Pittsburgh as it had been.

After some time I wrote to the Relevant Radio administration to offer my assessment and some (name removed by moderator)ut regarding the change in format. I also re-submitted my plea for them to consider getting “Light of the East” on to their entire network in addition to Chicago and Pittsburgh. My point was to offer ideas that I thought would be to the advantage of Relevant Radio.

I received a polite letter from Relevant Radio in repsonse to my letter. A few days later my producer received an email communication from the Chicago office of Relevant Radio informing him that “Light of the East” would no longer be carried on Relevant Radio. Nothing was mentioned about the one minute meditations. When my producer inquired about the one minute meditations Relevant Radio said that the one minute meditations would likewise no longer be carried on Relevant radio.

I personally received no communication or explanation from Relevant Radio as to why “Light of the East” was dropped, so I honestly do not know why it was dropped.

I am grateful to be able to say that “Light of the East” is carried on over 70 cities in the United States thanks largely to EWTN radio. We are also on Ave Maria Radio from Ann Arbor, Michigan as well as on other stations in the US. We are also accessible through our website: www.byzantinecatholic.com

Thank you again for your supportive posts. Tune in some time to
“A Body of Truth” on www.catholicradiointernational.com as well as of course, “Light of the East.”

Bless Father,

I tried to subscribe to the podcast feed for A Body of Truth, but it links to a different program called Thread of Grace. Could you help me out?

Thanks.
