Experienced the new translation? Thoughts?

It’s my understanding that the new English translation of the Roman Liturgy has been in use in Australia and some other parts of the world (I don’t know which) for several weeks now.

Has anyone out there experienced it? What are your thoughts on how it comes off? How are communities that have made the switch responding?

I heard the new roman canon prayed recently, according to the new translation. It was done by a bishop. 😃

I have to say, it was amazing!!!
 
I was just reading through some of it today and the language is simply beautiful. It is so much closer to the Latin original and is generally quite elegant in comparison to our current, rather utilitarian translation.
 
This is exciting for me. I love the mass said in Latin and I’ve understood the differences for awhile now.

I’m waiting for when we first join together to say the Creed for the first time: “Why believe in God…”

I haven’t attended a Mass using it yet, but from the text, it looks to be a tremendous improvement.
 
The “new” translations are basically the ones used before VaticanII. So litle new about them except to the younger generations. At that time they were spoken in Latin by the priest or the altar servers. Attendees spoke very infrequently during that Mass. Its claimed now the responses are more authentic to the original Hebrew and Greek,except no one now around to confirm that.
Yes, I have read them and listened to the responses. The sung Gloria will elicit sundry responses!
 
Ive only read a very short exerpt of text but it struck me that the English grammar was poor and that even as someone who has studied the theology of the mass at degree level I found myself having to work hard to elicit the meaning from the expresion: I dont think it will be a usefuil tool for evangelism and chatechisis if it is not easily accessible…It might sound good and give an ethereal sense of mystery. i shall await experiencing the whole with interest it may be that as a whole it is not at all as I have the impression of it being…if I love it, who knows I may find myself more frequently in Mass but if I dont Im lucky that I can vote with my feet, not being catholic.

Literal translations may not be grammatically correct in the English. For example, “Glory to God in the Highest” is literal but has no verb. But the idea is that Latin still is the basis of all OF translations and therefore the gist of the meaning should be more common among all the vernaculars. Although the new translation still has problems, at least the words of the Institution will not be “for you and for all.”
 
For a teen like myself, I truly believe this will be a great milestone into bringing The Church back to it’s traditional roots. I really cannot wait to experience the new translation 😃
 
Why would it be brought in earlier in some parts of the world, and later in others? Could any priest start using it now, or would that make the mass illicit if, say, in that country its not supposed to be until November or whatever?
Or is it a case of, you can use it now, or stick with the old, but by Advent everyone must be using it?
 
English speaking world last to succumb to the Vatican demand. Trouble was the agreement of translation among the English speaking world. Spanish speaking world has been using this version for at least the last 5 years.
Yes,parish priest could use the new version before Advent though would not be particularly good for his relationship with his Bishop.
 
I have to admit, I never seem to get one of the cards that we have at most churches that has the new prayers on it, and I’m one of those who still stumbles through saying the old prayers and looking sheepish and then not responding at all because I’m not sure what to say. My problem, though, I’ll get better at it.

Change is hard 🙂
