I was wondering if any of you have had experiences of visions while in prayer. If so, and if you care to, please share them here?

if I did, I would not discuss them here, because I would have brought them to spiritual director for discernment, and he would definitely have counselled me, as do the great spiritual writers, to disregard them, to discern future such experiences, and on no account to discuss them or reveal them to other people.

I always have visions while in prayer, although usually they are just images.

Yesterday, before mass, I was praying, and I saw the Virgin in front of me when my eyes were closed. And I heard a voice that said, “Take your sign…” and I saw a man’s hand with a rosary in it, and the crucifix of the rosary was in the palm of the hand. Then I stopped praying, and relaxed. During mass, the preacher explained “Take up your cross,” and it was actually a clear response to some personal questions.

God bless!

I don’t always have them but often. And mine are like snap shots usually. Very interesting. Thanks.

Dear friends

I am not saying people do not have visions, but before everyone gets carried away here I’d just would like to say that the mind is a very complex place and can and does create images in the mind due to focus and concentration during prayer, this can seem like a vision, but may not necessarily be one and always such things should be discussed with a Priest or someone who is competant in spiritual direction on this kind of thing.

I’d don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade, but there is alot of danger in immediately thinking that a ‘seen’ image is from God. Also the evil one is very adept at creating such ‘visions’. Here is a link that may help people to work out what is going on with them, but the best place is to go for help in the Church and most certainly not to discuss them openly with others.
