Hello
Can anyone give any experience they have had with the FFI. I feel that God may be calling me to them. They all seem very orthodox, they preach on things such as stopping communion in the hand and against the pill, and their masses seem solemn. I inquired with a Friar, and he mailed me several books, pamphlets, and a large miraculous medal. The other order I am interested in, the FSSP, told me to wait until I graduate from High School, and find a spiritual advisor. I just did not like their response. The FFI seem much more interested, saying God may be calling me now, I should visit a friary, and that there is an 18 yr old who just got out of High School and is entering the novitiate. Also, can anyone list any other similar orders? The three things I look for in an order is
  1. Orthodoxy and obedience to the Supreme Pontiff & Magisterium
  2. Latin Mass or very solemn NO with incorporation of Latin and Ad Orientem-- al la Fr. Fession & EWTN
  3. Preservation and practices of Church Tradition.
    Thank You!

Dear Starchyp,
Praise be Jesus Christ.

There is an informative thread on the Friars of the Immaculate over at Phatmass, here; phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=79684

To answer your question, if you are looking for a Franciscan order that fits your criteria, then the FFI are really your only option. Beyond the Franciscans, there are not many active male religious orders out there that are orthodox and traditional, unless you enter a contemplative order (such as the Benedictines of Clear Creek, or the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming). For more information on the differences between religious orders, and which ones are more orthodox and traditional, please see the following website; www.religious-vocation.com

In terms of discernment, perhaps the best place to start would probably be to decide whether you feel called to a religious order (where you take the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience), or to a society of secular priests (such as the FSSP or Society of St. John Cantius). This is an important step, because the ultimate goal in religious life is distinctly different than the life of a secular/diocesan priest. Once you discern this, then you will be able to quickly narrow down your choices.

My prayers are with you during this time of discernment.

Blessings.

That’s so sad. Although I’m a young woman who is discerning religious sisterhood as a Franciscan, I really feel bad about that, and I hope that there are more men, such as the one who posted this thread, who are willing to step up to the plate and do what’s right.

And God bless you, starchyp, for trying to remain faithful.
