No, it’s a fine for breaking the lw that is paid on top of the normal fees that must be paid!

See, the problem is that you seem to only want deportation (which practically leads to permanent banishment). No choices, no mercy, no hope. Forget the families that would be broken apart. Forget the economic damage it would do to whole regions. Forget the suffering it woudl cause.

Sorry, that’s not real-world thinking.

There are

That rally of cry of families being brokern apart is just silly: if they were to be deported, the whole family would go. As far as the economic damage, wouldn’t be anything long term.

No, it’s a fine for breaking the law that is paid on top of the normal fees that must be paid! Using the renewal of driver license example, let’s say I get a ticket for speeding with a fine of $120. If I don’t pay it, it goes up to, say, $250 and I can’t renew my license until it’s paid. I have to pay the FINE for breaking the law and pay the normal $18 fee to renew my license.

But let’s get down to brass tacks: from what I have seen, you seem (I add seem to avoid the charge that I’m assuming what you think…I’m extrapolating this from your words) to only want deportation (which practically leads to permanent banishment). No choices, no mercy, no hope. Forget the families that would be broken apart. Forget the economic damage it would do to whole regions. Forget the suffering it woudl cause. They violaed the law, so they’re persona non grata. Buh-bye. Never even TRY to come back because we’ll just turn you away (because the truth is, there is NO legal process for poor people to enter the US unless they already have a mother, father, brother or sister here who are citizens).

Sorry, that’s not real-world thinking. Good emotional workout, though.

Did you go to the John Kerry Speakin’ School? First it’s a fee, then a fine, then a fee again, now it’s back to a fine. I’ve got to go have another beer or three to understand what you are trying to get at.

Sorry I didn’t get the memo. I guess I need to check D.U. more often. 😉
What’s D.U.?
There really isn’t any debate about it. A “fine” that is less than the cost of a passport can’t really be called anything else
Are you talking about a United States Passport that is only given to United States Citizens so they can travel abroad? Why would we give one of those to ANY immigrant who is not a naturalized citizen and what does that have to do with whether or not it’s a fee or a fine?

The fine for violating a carpool lane here is $371. It costs $31 to register a car in California. What does one have to do with the other?
but a fee to try to appease those of us who are against the whole idea.
This is intellectually dishonest. Just tell us what you want. and how you plan to accomplish it in a realistic fashion while avoiding violating the rights of citizens and legal residents.
I think they think we are stupid. You don’t think we are stupid do you? I keep getting the idea that those in big cities think of us as “hicks” and they can play word games and do what they wish.
There you go again assuming what other people think or need as well as making sweeping statements about whole groups of people. How rude and uncharitable! :tsktsk:

Not so unless the law was changed to allow for the deportation of citizens from the United States. Oh, that’s right, there’s this ridiculous and ludicrous notion that there is no birthright of citizenship for children born to non-citizens.

Truly disgusting!

I’ve ALWAYS understood it to be a fine and have ALWAYS said so. Don’t try to put words in my mouth, it’s unsanitary.

They pay a fine for breaking the law (being here illegally).

They pay fees for a services, like processing immigration paperwork.

Get it?

Check this out:

There is a fee AND a fine.

I am glad you agree they are here illegally. The penalty for being here illegally is deportation.

Are you alleging that I have ever denied this? Please provide links to the appropriate posts.
The penalty for being here illegally is deportation.
Penalties can change and do…all the time. They can go up. They can go down. They can involve fines or civil penalties. They can involve jail. They can involve seizure of property.
