Explain how to seek His face in deep prayer

What are some much deeper prayers to say beyond just the usual vocal prayers?

How can I go deeper into prayer with just simple vocal prayers?

Are there other prayers that can be said to take one deeper into

a relationship with the beloved?

I want to meet Him, and dwell with Him.

Please help.

PS-when religious or priests or monks say that they spend 4 hours in prayer a day, does anyone know what prayers they are actually saying?

They don’t say what they are specifically saying or meditating on.

I think you are experiencing Psalm 42:1-2
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

Words fall short of fulfilling what our hearts long for. In the silence of your heart, pour out your emotions to God and imagine yourself in his Presence. Spend time there. He will meet you there. And remember to Praise Him, thank Him, and give glory to him, for “God inhabits the praises of his people”
 
When priests, monks, or religious spend 4 hours in prayer, I really want to know what exactly they are doing, for all those hours.

I need God to talk to me.

Currently during an attempt at quiet and listening meditation, he called me Daughter in the depths of my heart.

And then, there was nothing.

I want more of HIm speaking to me, and not just saying vocal prayers upwards to Him.

That he called you Daughter is beautiful. It’s so personal and such an affirmation of his love for you. Hang onto that and wait on him. I think it’s an invitation to move deeper into his presence. Seek his face often and tell him of your desire to hear his voice.

I think we all desire to hear God’s voice every day. It’s a gift when it happens. He has spoken to me also. Sometimes in assurance and sometimes in correction. But mostly it’s been when I haven’t expected it.

I don’t think there’s a particular “way” to hear God’s voice. Sometimes it’s through reading his Word, sometimes it’s in prayer. All I can say is seek his face more and more, ask him to reveal more and more of himself to you, and ask him to make you more and more into the image of his son. And then wait on him.

Also I think that we walk by faith and not by sight, so “hearing his voice” is not an everyday event for most people. Some claim that it can be…if it can, then I’m not there either.
 
I wanted to add to this, that the more my day revolves around him, the more frequently I hear from him. If I spend a good part of my day listening to and singing worship songs to him, watching uplifting religious programs, reading scripture, and talking to him often during the day, especially thanking and praising him, then the “lines of communication” seem to be more open. During these times of personal worship I always place myself in his presence and imagine that I am before his throne in heaven.

Read “Fire Within” by Thomas DuBay to go deeper into prayer, union with God as taught by St. John Of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila.

The religious say the Liturgy of the Hours. Saying mass is a prayer.,There are favorite prayers of each person. To really tap into God speaking w you, use scriptural prayer. The room should be quiet. Assume a posture of Praise before your petition. If you have the gift of tongues, that can elevate you to a higher level of devotion. One can hear His voice & definitely, feel His love.
 
The book “Deep Conversion: Deep Prayer” by Fr Dubay was beneficial to me.

I second everything you said here. I, too, find that the more time i spend in his presence the easier it is to hear his voice and feel his presence.

That Psalm is so lovely! I wonder if King David wrote that, and he was seeking Gods face after repenting or before repenting?

He sought a right relationship with the living God, it seems.

Have you ever felt like you have been in the desert as well?

There is no end to this endless thirst it seems for even more of Him.

Perhaps it is due to running away and then regretting it.

King David lost track of God and so have I. So it makes me want Him more, yet retreat often out of fear of Him.

Yes, its often unexpectedly, and at His time and not ours. However, when we are to pray daily, does it then become His time?

Today I was starting to read a bit more at the beginning of St Faustina’s Diary, and one of her writings stood out for me:

“You bless whoever approaches Your rays,
And a soul all black will turn into snow.”

As I was reading this, I looked up at the crucifix in my home, and I felt transfixed and pure joy filled me.

All I can say is that He must really love her and just to read her diary must bring blessings with it.

I’m thinking that a new way for me to go deeper is to just read some of St Faustina’s writings then and to meditate onto them.

Its as if today, God said to me that this is exactly what He desires me to do.

When saying the rosary, at the 5 sorrowful mysteries, I thought of His wounds after reading this diary verse.

It brought me to really be able to focus on this piercing of His side and to think of the fount of mercy that flowed for all mankind!

So we can meditate onto scripture, and apparently as His Spirit showed to me today, onto the writings of the Saints as well.

Now, and at every hour, and forever and ever.”

Have you tried praying in tongues? the Bible mentions it in 1 Cor. 12 & 14. It’s a prayer language that has benefited me quite a bit. Sometimes, when you go to pray, you don’t even know where to begin or what to say. That’s where tongues comes in. The Bible does not say that this gift has ceased, and I don’t want to get into a debate about it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask God to give you the gift of tongues.

I asked for all of the gifts that Paul mentions in 1 Cor. 12 and He gave me the gift of tongues. You utter mysteries in the Spirit, so you won’t know what you’re saying. Basically, when one prays in tongues, it’s the Holy Spirit praying to the Father through you. Some will say that tongues is just gibberish, but Paul said that it is a mystery language, so even though you won’t know what you’re saying, the Father certainly does.

Read 1 Cor. 12 & 14 and pray about it. The Lord will give you a gift if you ask for it. That’s what He did for me and He is more than happy to give one [or more] to you. 🙂

Nope. It’s spontaneous. When I pray in tongues, I don’t choose what syllables I say, but I provide the air. I’m the one who speaks it, but I don’t choose what I say. It’s hard to explain. No training or lectures are required, though. 🙂
 
Hi Mary15, Yes, the desert is normal. It is God calling you to go deeper into him.

I think often about the quote from Augustine who said, " Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”

Our hearts will be restless and not completely satisfied until the time when we are fully united with Him. I have also heard this called “separation anxiety” because even though we can know him in this life, we long to be with him in person and to be completely one with him.

Your Spirit within you is testifying that you belong to God and your spirit is awaiting the final fulfillment of your created destiny–that is, to be with your God, body, soul, and spirit.

I desire to seek him more and more also, and I’ve decided that I want more of these experiences for myself–not just to read about others’ experiences. So I myself need to sit more in his presence and spend more time with him–not just casually for a few minutes.

I would also encourage you to ask him for the gift of tongues, as @drac16 suggested, because your spirit can commune with his about needs and desires that you may not consciously know about. And then trust in Him, for as scripture says, “what father, if his child asks for bread, would give him a stone instead?”

But mostly, sit in his presence and know that you are the object of his delight and he will never let you go. Rejoice in him, for he rejoices in you.
 
It seems at times so difficult to seek His face, yet he calls to us to come out of the darkness.

This can be a not so easy task, and can meet up with many storms:
