Have you ever felt like you have been in the desert as well?

I find the desert experience is usually a paradigm shift. It usually means we are subconsciously reestablishing another pathway inward. Most of the time. I think there are exceptions.

The book, Song of Songs, by St. Teresa of Avila is a great journey into meeting God on a deeper level.

I think praying the rosary for several hours allows us to follow the pathway of the interior like a labyrinth.
 
Look into the “liturgy of the hour”. Chanted Gregorian style in latin was my personal preference during my monastic period.
