So, I asked a question about others opinions of whether something was right or wrong and I just received an answer that I had scruples. The definition I found and by post response made it sounds as if I did not have a conscience. Can someone explain this in its totality, maybe a link?

Here are two articles.

I would suggest reading the two articles first and then go back and read the answers on the thread. Which I’m guessing is “Immoral to waste time, buy expensive things”.

I’m guessing the comment was made because you were bringing up quite a few examples at one time, which can be a sign someone is leaning towards scrupulosity.

Let me know your thoughts on the article then we can talk more.

God Bless

PS I have 5 young adults now. Wish I would have wasted a lot more time with them, even doing nothing, when they were younger.

pianistclare, I think MT was referring to the time when his/her children were younger, something like less than 10 years old. I cherish the time with my two young daughters (7 & 8) and I know exactly what MT is talking about. After I get home from work and before dinner, we will just sit together doing whatever. One of us might be watching a show, another playing on her ipad, and another coloring; nonetheless, we all stay together in the same room and just hang out.

At the time, it seems like a waste of time because the yard isn’t getting cut, the dishes aren’t getting cleaned, the clothes aren’t getting washed, emails aren’t being answered, just spending time with kids doing mindless things … not to be regrettable as kids grow up to adults, they usually don’t want to waste time with you either because now they have their own lawns to cut, dishes to wash, clothes to launder and life to live.

Wasted time? What?
My comment was directed at a quote made by @hoping4more in a different thread asking if it was immoral to waste time. This was one of the wasted time examples…
What if you take the family to the beach or mountains and don’t really read or accomplish anything for a few days? We of course look for shells and critters and plants but that is only for a little bit.
I was saying I wish I would have been able to waste a lot more of that 👆 kind of time with the kids when they were young.

God Bless

ok, I can see where people were asking about scruples now. The other examples I gave in that thread were just to help explain the situation not that I was actually dealing with that.

Its always being in a state of doubt about having committed a mortal sin and obsessively trying to remove the doubt by means of frequent confession or persistent seeking of advice on sin and conscience and never really being satisfied with the answers receive for long.

Your starting of this thread is a good example.

The answer is to find a regular spiritual director who will be aware of your condition each time.
Don’t look on CAF for advice from anonymous strangers who don’t know you - it wont help your condition.
