Explain your thoughts on Bi Polar

How would you explain what are symptoms of Bi Polar …

Yes huge mood swings, but I think they can be rather argumentative,

They contradict themselves , and others without realising it,
Code: 
Everything is someone else's fault,,but when cornered and fault is proven without doubt 

 to be there's ,,,, they become upset and claim all fault ,  because every one else is so 

perfect.,,,,,   And if they have a child,,,,, they baby that child till teen age....
What are your thoughts ?
 
Bipolar disorder is an illness. The examples the OP gave have nothing to do with bipolar disorder except for mood swings which can be frequent or not depending on the person Lets try to refrain from bashing those with mental illnesses Thanks

It is a horrendous mistake to try to self diagnose any mental condition by yourself. You cannot do this on the internet.
If you have any suspicions that you have a psychological problem, you need to seek professional help and advice.
If you are a minor, you still can get help in one of two ways. First, go to your rectory and ask to see a priest. Contemporary priests are trained in modern counseling and can refer you to Catholic psychological or psychiatric professionals. The second way is to go to any hospital emergency room and tell the admitting nurse that you need to see a psychiatrist.
Don’t worry about payment, there are many public programs in both the US and Canada that can take care of this if you don’t have health insurance coverage.

There are a myriad of symptoms to BiPolar Disorder. It is a mental illness with a physiological cause. Let us pray for those afflicted to seek the help they need & for relief of their anguish.
 
I have two siblings with bipolar and they don’t have what I would consider “mood swings”, which to me means sudden and unpredictable changes of mood. My siblings go into manic and depressive states and usually stay there for some time. (sometimes months) They can be argumentative, paranoid, aggressive, etc in either one of those states. The treatments they take are designed to keep them from going into either one of those states.

I agree with the individuals who say that bipolar is more than mood; an individual is diagnosed with bipolar I disorder if he or she has had one or more manic episodes (this is according to the most recent DSM, the DSM-5). An individual would be diagnosed with bipolar II disorder if he or she has at least one major depressive episode, at least one hypomanic episode (less severe than mania, and the duration is shorter), and no manic episodes. Bipolar I especially is a debilitating disorder, and individuals who struggle with bipolar should be given a great deal of support and help.

👍, best advice on this thread. The official symptoms are found in DSM IVR but one should not be self-diagnosing. That also goes for the too common problems of other posters that want to diagnose other posters with mental illness such as OCD, etc and so on.
 
My thought? Scary. I’ve only known one person who was actually diagnosed with it. Scary stuff.
 
Just think I need to Clarify a couple of things…

I myself do not have Bi Polar… my mother had it all her life…

I strongly believe a work colleague may suffer from it,

because her personality seems very similar to that of my mother…

which I describes in my opening post…

I don’t expect a Diagnosis on this thread…just an open minded forum,
 
The reason why laypeople online can’t diagnose a mental or mood disorder is because there are several and all of them have symptoms along a spectrum. So what you think are signs of bi polar could actually be depression or anxiety disorder or something totally different. In the case of the co worker you CANNOT diagnose, encourage a diagnosis or make medical suggestions regarding mental and emotional health in most workplaces. If I were you, I wouldn’t try it. What you can do if it is a persistent problem that impairs your ability to work with this person you can approach a supervisor and say that you have noticed (list behaviors) that make it difficult to work with co worker X and frame it in a way that you want to know what you should or can do to help. DO NOT talk about this with co workers as that will only feed the gossip mill. A supervisor will likely have good suggestions or will work with HR personnel and possibly counseling/EAP specialists if your job has something similar to that. Best of luck.
 
I will not be open-minded on this thread if all you intend to do is insult and belittle people who suffer from mental illnesses. This is a great cross to bear, and the things they do are not entirely under their control, especially after a long period without control or treatment of the disease. So I’d advise you to have a little more courtesy for this person and others, especially on the forums where we are required to be charitable in all posts.

Everything you say is correct, Supervisor is well away of the situation…
and nothing can be done, because this lady does her job as required…
he behaviour is erratic , and is argumentative as I had already stated…
everyone avoids this lady for fear of being accused of something…
the purpose of this Thread is not to Criticize , make fun of, or misinterpret a person…
just wish some (name removed by moderator)ut into my thoughts…
 
Your workplace is in a bind because this woman has a disability which she has disclosed. Now, Australia’s labor laws are not that of the United States where I live, so I can only generalize and speculate here, but I imagine that the employee would have a lawsuit if they fired her merely due to her mental illness.

I would suggest that you pray for her and offer this up as a Lenten penance for now. Workplace situations are sometimes not easy and must be dealt with in a delicate manner, because they are always interpersonal dynamics and politics which we do not have complete control of, while we depend on our job for our livelihood and spend much of our waking hours there trying to do the best job possible.

You should evaluate for yourself how likely it is that you can continue dealing with the situation, or whether you should tidy up your CV with eyes to moving on to another job which might not have this problem. You should be aware that no job is trouble-free. You should also be aware that this woman is blessed to have employment, because people with bipolar are frequently too disabled to work at all. So think twice before you set up a vendetta or crusade against her, thinking that it would be easier for you if she were out of the picture. That would make you the problem rather than the solution here.

Our Labor Laws are much the same… and everything you say makes sense…
we have no Vendetta or Crusade … we all know it’s just something we must live with…
 
Dated someone with that for awhile. I could always tell something was off as they seemed a little restrained but I thought it was because they were just a conservative Catholic and being respectful. They admited they had it and disappeared. Mood swings and inconsistance are two things to look for.
 
Without an professional diagnosis I’m not sure what to tell you. If you knew what disorder your coworker had you could go do a search for how to work with people with a specific disorder. I encounter people with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder, not Bi-polar) regularly and when I know they have that diagnosis I can engage my first rule for working with them: Don’t take anything personally. If I don’t know a diagnosis, the experience can be challenging. I don’t think it’s helpful to give everyone I consider a challenge to work with this diagnosis but I suppose I can engage the rule.
