Keep these parts of the Nicene Creed in mind especially:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. …] I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. …]
What I have read essentially says you must make a distinction between what we as humans can do and what God can do.
Our thoughts are imperfect, scattered, abstract;
God’s thoughts are perfect, infinitely focused, truly REAL
With that in mind, consider before time and space existed, GOD the FATHER IS; He expressed Himself in Divine Word (sort of like He was making a Divine Statement, “This is Who I AM”) and because God expresses Himself so perfectly,the result was that this Divine Word was then
with GOD, and that Word
was GOD. Because of this relationship of the Father begetting the Word, we call the Word, the Son of God (or more clearly: God the SON of God the FATHER)
Now the Son, being just as perfect as the Father, knowing the infinitely wonderful God perfectly, infinitely Loved the Father before all time, and the Father loved His Son, because He was infinitely perfect (it can seem egotistical, but if you can accept that God is the only perfect Being in all existence, then for Him to do anything less than love Perfection would make no sense). Their Love for each Other is so perfect and infinite, this very Love that proceeds from the Father and the Son,
It, in and of Itself,
is GOD. God is Love (1 John 4:8).
As a side note, all expressions of love are nothing more than the image and likeness of the relationship between the Father and the Son.
In any case, that is one explanation I’ve heard. If you can perfectly describe the Trinity, then you perfectly know God, and well…to describe the Infinite GOD would take all eternity to describe…maybe we can attend that class in Heaven
PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I’M WAY OFF ON THIS!
