My son asked me why I wear the Brown Scapular. As he is only five I wasn’t sure how to explain it to him without confusing him.

So how do I explain it in a simple way that he would understand?

Thanks.

How would you explain it to an adult? If I asked you why you wear the scapular, what would you say?

Depends how old. I have a 5 year old (who’s got an amazing faith). I would tell him something like it is about your communication and trust in God. You could maybe put the Mary part in there if they were 10 or so. You may have to explain the Mary as Intercessor part. also. 🙂

“I wear it because it reminds me to say my prayers, and it is a way for me to remember how much God loves us. it’s called a sacramental, like holy water, and medals. These things help Catholics remember to pray well. Our family is Catholic.”

Kids are not as simple as people think they are. They can grasp a lot, especially sincerity and truth from their parents.
