There are occasions when I pray that I begin to lose feeling of my body, and experience a since of this force spinning inside of my body. It is almost as though something in my body is spinning rapidly. This only goes on for what feels to be about a minute, but it only happens when I am in deep prayer at very random times in my life (around 10 times). Has anyone else experienced this, or know of any teaching on this? I have always wondered what it was. Also, is this common for most people?

I’ll be honest, it sounds like a medical issue and perhaps you should ask your doctor.

Prayer for Catholics is not based on having bodily feelings. Occasionally part of our body might lose feeling if we stayed in one position too long when we prayed and restricted the blood flow to our leg or something.

Sounds like something I felt occasionally, rarely, when I was a teenager if I was in a very relaxed frame of mind. Kind of like I was floating weightless on a warm, fleecy cloud. I miss that feeling.

I once saw a video in which a recovering addict described the rush he got from heroin, and it sounded very similar. I can understand why he wanted to experience that feeling again.
