Is that in the background the Annunciation. It looks like it.
No, it isn’t the Annunciation. Holy Tradition tells us that Mary was often in with the Holy of Holies and that the Angels brought her “bread from Heaven” or heavenly nourishment. This is what is depicted in this part of the ikon.

Holy Tradition also tells us that one of the duties of Mary when she was in the Temple was to spin the threads that were used to weave the veil of the Temple that hid the Holy of Holies from those in the main part of the Temple.

Hope this helps…
The above statement made is taken from where? It is not in the bible. Holy Tradition tells us? How do we know this as truth that Mary was often in the temple to spin the threads? Where is this written? Or is this a “myth” and are we assuming such things? remember Joseph, Mary and Jesus travelled for days to the temple upon the feast days, did they not? Where did Jesus grown up? Was it not in a small town of? Did Mary and Joseph not realize Jesus was missing after 3 days on the journey and had to go back and did they not find Jesus in the temple?

And would there not be more than Mary weaving thread if she did do this?

@planter654:

I’m not trying to be offensive but you are sounding like a heretic to both Orthodox and Catholic standards. The Presentation of the Theotokos is historical fact, and is Ordinary Catholic Magisterium, to deny it is heresy.

Well, we don’t know that Peter and Paul were martyred as well (Acts left off with Paul going to Rome for sentencing), yet Holy Tradition also tells us they were both martyred in Rome.
Sorry, I didn’t notice. The picture was quite blurry. I guess the man on the right is just wearing a hood.
Yes, he is wearing a hood. Sorry, my phone cam isn’t high res (Nokia 6600–not even high res then 🤷)

Actually we do know from Holy Scripture that St. Peter was martyred in Rome:

"because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me." (2 Peter 1:14)

That’s ok, no problem. I think that I will get an Icon of Job for my Charismation.

Unless he is somehow clairvoyant, he is only saying he will follow (to an extent) what Christ did (cf. John 21:18-19). So here in 2 Peter he makes a reference to what Jesus told him, but is not exact as to what type of death he will undergo, nor where that will happen; we can only surmise he was martyred then, but Scripture does not actually record this.

Many years to you then when that time comes. 👍

No it doesn’t, however we can see that St. Peter knows that he will soon be martyred.

Thank You. However it will be in an Eastern Catholic Church. I feel closer drawn to the Eastern Faith, however I still believe in the Catholic Church, however I pray for the reunification of our Churches.

That much is clear (our Lord already told him this before His Ascension).

We all pray for that day to come, God having mercy on us all.

Of course.

It is nice that Pope Benedict XVI and Patriarch Bartholomew I seem to be a little bit pro-Reunification. BTW I am at page 96 in The Orthodox Church by Timothy Ware.

It’s a start, but we also need to know what the other Patriarchates feel about this.

A good read. 👍 Haven’t read it yet (it’s not even available where I live 🤷), but people recommend it.

We are OT though, so I guess we should let the thread go back to its course. It’s nice talking to you though. Feel free to PM me anytime (and nice you’re into anime too :p)

No, Icons are meant to be realistic.
No! but I am asking where they learned these things about Mary and angels bringing her food? How would anyone know that unless “they themselves witness” that is what I am asking? Is this a myth or how did or who did or where is this record in the time of Jesus and Mary, Joseph or where in the bible is it written?

Asking questions is what we all do, do we not? I accept your apology of you “rude name calling” me a herictic!

Thank you and God Bless

@planter654:

These beliefs are based on the Holy Tradition of the Catholic Church, that we have always upheld to.

Are you painting it on wood board wall?
We’re painting on dry wall.

We just finished life-sized Communion of the Apostles and we did that on the back wall of the sanctuary. Above that is a 12-ft Virgin of the Sign that we did on walltex…

@Patchunky:

You should take some pictures of what you are working on. I’m sure that everyone on this thread would enjoy seeing it. 🙂
