Extraordinary Form Ad populum

Does anyone know any parishes in the United States or Canada where the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is commonly celebrated on a free-standing altar facing the people?

Would this practice be allowed? Would it be advisable, why or why not?

I’ve seen photo links from this site showing it being done shortly after WW2. There are rubrics in the Missale Romanum for celebrating in the Basilican Orientation (as it’s called there), complete with how a free-standing altar is censed.

But I don’t think that devotees of the EF would want to see it done.

Well if it’s done for the purpose of facing east I don’t see a problem… No matter what the “devotees” which I am a part of say…

Since it is about God and not about us.
