no, its not a difficult line to walk. how about you just don’t talk about the ordinary form? if you stop with the comparisons and grousing, it won’t get under your skin. pretend the OF doesn’t exist and no one will accuse you of disparaging it.

I don’t like the NY Yankees, so I don’t think about them or talk about them. this isn’t rocket science.

I agree, and this is essentially the route I’m taking. We must remember that this is a pamphlet so brevity is of the essence. I have about one page to very quickly inform the reader what the EF is, how it’s different than one might expect, when, where, and by whom it will be celebrated, with a small amount of room for extra resources.

As of yet the document says:
• that the EF is the form of the Mass as it was celebrated prior to the Second Vatican Council,
• that its reintroduction to many dioceses has followed His Holiness, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s Summorum Pontificum,
• that it is being reintroduced to our Archdiocese (more regularly, and in a parish more central to the rest of the city) per the request of the Archbishop,
• that Latin-English missalettes will be provided,
• and that all are welcome.

That’s it! The body of the pamphlet has no mention whatsoever of “Ordinary Form”, “Novus Ordo”, or any other hot-button keyword one usually associates with this subject. In the resources box, I’ve linked to:

• this EF Tutorial page,
• this copy of Summorum Pontificum,
• differences between the EF and OF***descriptive (rather than prescriptive)***noticeable,
• and the web addresses of other EF parishes in the area.

All what’s left, that I think would be helpful for those interested in assisting, would be an actual side-by-side comparison of the Ordo. You’ll notice that the aforementioned resources come from rather neutral parties (SanctaMissa, EWTN, and About.com). It’s not a deal breaker, so if I end up not finding an easy-to-copy address from a commentary-free source, I’ll just do without. I’m leaning toward Laszlo’s link, though I’m hesitant as it’s more geared toward those already very familiar with the EF.

As much as I respect the Latin Mass society, I don’t think this is a valid comparison as it compares only certain translations, which imply differences where none might exist. I’m not saying there are no differences but I don’t think they should be exaggerated to make that point.
