Mass of the Feast of the Precious Blood will be celebrated on EWTN at 8:00. Now you know. You’re welcome.

I’ll be sure to … miss it. Well, probably. Not because I dislike the TLM, but because it airs at 10pm here

It was truly awesome. And God bless Fr. Buckley for the wonderful, courageous sermon he gave.

Actually I’m watching it now (caught a repeat). Anyone notice the poky old-school-looking confessionals? Man, I’d be so claustrophobic if I had to use one of those. I can’t believe priests used to sit in those poky little shoeboxes for hours on end :nope:

Well, I have to say, having never been to a real live TLM and having not seen too many other broadcast ones, this one was good - it was well-filmed and well done soundwise, easy to follow (perhaps knowing more Latin than I used to helps as well) and it makes a lot more sense to me somehow.

And dig the cool statue of St Paul (I presume it’s been recently put up there to honour the Year of St Paul).

Was truly beautiful, yes. Amazing to see most Catholics I know have never seen a ‘Latin Mass’. They are truly missing out.

Well, the TLM (which is not a ‘Latin Mass’, there are Latin NOs out there too) isn’t either widely available or widely televised or anything.

I think the TLM is beautiful when properly done (and I’m sure it can be improperly done - rushed and so on), but not inherently better than the NO. And I don’t believe it is necessarily more conducive to holiness for everyone, either, any more than the Eastern Catholic DLs or the NO are for everyone.

Can we agree that no-one who attends any valid and licit form of the Mass, having Our Lord present in all of them, can genuinely be missing out on anything?

I saw the very first part, what organization or church was celebrating the Mass? I cant say it appealed to me off the bat, but that was probably at least partly becuase I didnt understand the words, and had no translation like the missals apparently do. I do know I didnt like the singing of the reading from Hebrews. It was odd sounding, as it was basically a chanting on one note then a melody once every minute.

On a side note, the month is now July LilyM, time for a signature change:D

I didn’t see the very beginning either, so I can’t comment. I came in around the ‘Kyrie’, and from that point on I know enough Latin to basically follow the prayers. Readings, and sometimes prayers as well, when they are chanted do tend to be chanted like that - the priest stays on one note for the most part of a sentence or verse and goes up and down only towards the end.

It was held at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery (Mother Angelica’s stomping ground 🙂 ) and the priests were from the FSSP.

I would like to know what the bit was near the end after the ‘Ite Missa Est’ where the priest went over and looked like he was talking to and giving blessings to some of the nuns individually?

I don’t know but any blessings in Latin seem pretty cool, no? 🙂

I was sort of disappointed with your dislike of those “old” confessionals, though. I saw a lot of churches demolishing those styles of confessionals; maybe they looked too intimidating, I don’t know.

That Solemn High Mass of the Extraordinary Form was awesome!! Just like I remember, wonderful!! I even knew the responses. Can’t wait until we have them closer to home, looking forward to that. I agree the sermon was just perfect.
Altar rails, receiving on the tongue, even the Chapel veils, everything was just beautiful.
Those “old” confessionals in that Church are fairly new.
I love everything about that Church.
They even prayed the St. Michael the Arch Angel prayer afterwards. Beautiful.
I remember at the end of Mass ages ago, that sometimes the Priest would give the Sisters a special blessing, and I believe a holy card with a prayer on it, I’m not sure about that, but I think that is what that was. He even asked them to pray for him, wasn’t that wonderful?
One other thing, that was at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. (still Mother Angelica’s place though, the nuns are there now I believe and not at the Our Lady of the Angels anymore.)

Like I said, it’s purely to do with their tiny size rather than any stylistic objections - I do get quite badly claustrophobic in all sorts of situations.

I didn’t mean to imply anything else by my use of the word ‘poky’, nor to imply disapproval by my use of the term ‘old school’

It was wonderful! My 9 year granddaughter (I baptized her this year) was playing computer games, yet she was trying to sing along with the Mass. I said to her “It sounds like heaven” she replied, “yeah, it does!” She kept looking away from her game to watch from time to time. 👍

What I meant was they are missing out on the beauty of the EF.
OFs sometimes are pretty boring and down-to earth imho.
I have seen pretty poor OFs, with girls dressed in no clothes and boys not dressed well, either. I don’t hate the OF, but people need to get with the picture. So I believe, to see something different and to see Cathlic history, Catholics should see the EF once in their lifetime. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I heard thought that this was the priest’s first EF ever. Was his blessing to the nuns like a first blessing, like the one priests give after thier first Mass?

If it was his first Mass ever that might apply (I believe there’s a plenary indulgence attached to it or something), but not his first EF. One of the other posters said that priests have done that at previous Masses, so it might just be a custom the nuns have.

Go here - ewtn.com/audiovideo/index.asp - and click directly underneath where it says ‘Live EWTN TV - English Africa/South East Asia’. Click on '100’k or ‘300k’ and you should be able to view it live. They’re part way through though.
I’m watching it right now. Thanks. It is very very beautiful. I like how all the decorations point to the Blessed Sacrament. I love the nuns singing. They sound like angels. I love the way that everyone is dressed. I love the Latin, but I need to learn it. 😃
