This may sound a bit naive, so please be patient. I’m a convert. I joined the Roman Catholic Church back in the late 1990’s (1997 I think ). I have never attended the traditional Latin Mass. I was reading about the order of the mass, http://www.sanctamissa.org/en/rubrics/ and it appears the priest is the only person who receives communion physically (eating and drinking the eucharist).

Is my interpretation correct? If so, how does that feed the souls of the other attendants?

This is not true. In the past, it was sometimes the case that communion was distributed outside of the Mass. Today however if you attend the Tridentine Mass, Communion will be available to laity (though only in the form of the bread).

I’m not an expert on this, but after reading the piece (your link doesn’t work but it was easy enough to find on their main page) articles 6 & 7 speak to the faithful receiving communion.

Pax et Bonum! Perhaps you were watching a demonstration of the Tridentine Mass where only the priest was visible??? I did not check any video to confirm, but wondered. I did go to the website and left the question in hopes of a response soon. Will let you know - I must say though, that I took your question to mean why others serving the Mass - servers and acolytes as you refer to them as “attendants”, did not receive communion - I did not take it as referring to the laity. Thanks Angeltime. Actually I was referring to servers and the laity. PianistClare pointed out the section of the rubrics that I missed while reading. I did not watch a video. It’s a bit of a long read; and I think I got to skimming with little mental retention

Peace…oh I see what happened. I ended up reading some articles on the site too and they are most interesting and informative. What a history! What an enlightenment! I will still let you know if I receive a message from the website about the question. I attend the Tridentine Mass, and have never noticed because at that time I am getting ready and prepared prayerfully to receive communion. In asking a friend, she said yes, everyone receives communion. God bless! angeltime

No, not at all.

The priest is the only one who is required to receive communion for the Mass to be legitimate.

BTW, its always been recognized that there is spiritual value to assisting at mass, even without receiving the sacrament.

Pax et Bonum! Heard from SantaMissa.org and the reason you may see some servers not receiving communion would be they have previously served other Masses that day and already received. They also might not be in a state of grace to receive at that particular time. Hope this helps! God bless, angeltime

In many dioceses around the world this is also the norm for the Ordinary Form…in my own archdiocese the Chalice is very rarely distributed to the faithful. Logistically it can become a nightmare especially in large parishes.
