It wasn’t my point that a priest is only a ‘functionary’; rather, as you point out, a priest is configured to Christ the Head of the Church – they do not become Christ or have the ‘hands of Christ’.Ordination does not simply make on a funcationary, able to perform a function, but rather ontologically changes the man to be configured to Christ the Person.
