=EasterJoy;8132690]It is rash judgment to conclude that the case you witnessed is an abuse.
When this happened at our parish, I happened to know that the celebrant was unsteady on his feet and did not participate in the distribution of Holy Communion because he was afraid he would lose his balance and drop the Blessed Sacrament.
In our archdiocese, the ideal is that the Precious Blood be available to the faithful. We don’t have enough priests and deacons to do that without EMsHC. The program for training EMsHC is run by the deacon, not a woman, and both men and women function as EMsHC. There are enough scheduled so that there will be enough people to help out if the presider is the only clergy present, but if other clergy are there, then there is an orderly method for deciding which EMHC automatically steps down. The “extraordinary” ministers are scheduled and used as a matter of routine, but that is because a clergy shortage is the norm. On the rare day when we had enough priests and deacons present to fill all the slots, there isn’t a layperson used. That happens as a matter of course. The deacon who does the training makes certain that the EMsHC he trains all know who is ordinary and who is not!
***Your point about your priest is Extremely valid. I thought it might be some such issue, but one never knows unless it is verified.
As for the Blood of Christ, and VERY Ordinary ministers of Jesus Christ:
Were you aware that this issue of receiving under both species was specifically addressed in the Second Vatican Council. If menory serves it was voted down by 65% NOT in favor and only about 35% in favor of it. SO WHY DID IT HAPPENS ANYWAY?
IT was yet another forced "mandate from the SPIRIT if vatican II. Precisely in order to get lay ministers into the sactuary [read that as female gender], as a step they hoped would lead [many still pushing the issue clandistly] of women Ordination.
It is not mere luck that in nearly every case there are more female ORDINARY Ministers than male gender. Romes current and supposedly still binding MANDATE is for RARE and exceptional use of lay-folk to distribute holy Communion. … That shocking is what “Extrodinary” actually means.
The International Universal Catholic norm is STILL to receive under the species of Bread alone as the ENTIRE Christ is present in every host and every particle of the Consecrated host. The excuse of a “fuller meaning” is the excuse to permit them to IGNORE what our Pope and our Magisterium want. … WHY?
It has noting to do with gender. AND everything due to what is proper unto our God. Priest and Deacons hands are anointed for this task. Alowing and incouraging lay folk to be substitue priest has more than any other factor deminished the TRUE and wide-spread understanding of the Reality of the “Real Pressence.” NOT the only reason but the most effective cause.
In MOST cases folks who can’t [woun’t] see this either don’t wish to or simply have given it very little prayerful thought.
Suppose you were a non-Catholic visiting for the first time a Catholic Mass. You alreadt do not believe in th Real Presence. ARE Ordinary MInisters of the Eucharist going to do anything to enhance the catholic position or the protestant position.
God You my friend, I’ll pray your priest is feeling better.
