I am 22 and currently am the only member of my family who still attends church. I live in the diocese of Harrisburg where Bishop Rhoades has granted us an every day Latin mass community to meet in the Cathedral Chapel. We may either continue to attend our territorial parish which form me is 10 minutes away, or we may join the new latin mass community which meets 45 minutes away in Harrisburg. I still live at home and sometimes I can’t make it up to harrisburg on a sunday and I am not registered at either of the parishes. What would you guys do? Would you register with the local parish and just occasionally visit the Latin community on occasion? My family tries to persuade me to just go to the local parish instead of driving 45 minutes but i must admit I enjoy the old form of the mass.

Difficult. The bishop has made a mistake in setting up a parallel EF community, whilst what he should have done was to keep parishes as one but made sure there was a reasonable level of EF celebration.
There are dangers in people shopping about until they get the priest that they like, or the type of Mass that they like, or the congregation that they like. Cars make the problem much worse, because it is little effort to go to a parish twenty miles away.

However I’d say that now the bishop has done it, it might be best to attend the EF community.

This is an important choice. I would say go to whichever form of the Mass you deem will be of greatest benefit to your soul. Plus, since it sounds like the TLM is its own parish, they might have other activities normal to a parish, which is good.

I would like to thank you guys for responding:thumbsup: . Really has helped me do some thinking on my choice. It’s a hard choice because i am friendly with the pastor but in reality, I dont belong to any parish or community. I have not registerd at any place. My only fear would be getting to the TLM on a regular basis. I guess if I could not make it, then I could just visit the territorial parish near me.

Which parish would you like to be more involved with overall? For me it’s not just attending Mass on Sunday, but other activities during the week, being involved in RCIA, etc. I wouldn’t want to have to drive 45 minutes (actually 90 minutes round trip) several times a week.

If you want to attend the EF of the Mass occasionally, you could do that while still being registered at the closer parish.

If you do register at the more distant parish I hope it will be able to meet all your needs.

I agree with you Suscipe, It would be hard to drive 90 minutes round trip every time you wanted to attend the parish functions. It would be easier for me to attend my local parish and register with them and when I am available on occasion, i can Visit the EF parish. Best of Both worlds, experience in both forms. Thanks for your good pointers:)
