From the AFP via The Australian :

In the restive northern city of Mosul, two suspected insurgents were killed and two wounded during a raid by US troops in search of weapons yesterday, a military statement said, adding that two “extremely large” caches were seized. The arms caches included 200,000 rounds of ammunition, over 950 mortar rounds and over 1850 pounds of explosives, it said.

US soldiers repelled an attack in Dujail, east of Baquba, yesterday killing two insurgents and detaining five, said a statement.

In Ramadi, the provincial capital of Anbar province, new Iraqi commandos conducted a raid on a hospital today “to investigate possible insurgent activity taking place on the premises,” said a US military statement.

A car bomb was detonated near a US-Iraqi security checkpoint yesterday in eastern Ramadi, said another statement without giving further details or saying if there were any casualties.

This will not be on the 5:00 p.m. news in Chicago and if it makes the Trubune at all it will be on page 6 or 7. What a shame our media is so biased against our military and conservatives. Bill Clinton’s hospitalization will take up 50% of the news time.

Isn’t THAT the truth! I do not want yet another unforgettable tour through Clinton’s cardiac system. The big deal they made out of the original bypass was laughable and this procedure is incredibly minor. This is NOT a serious situation regarding Clinton’s health as if a former president’s bodily functions were all that interesting anyway. The bias of the news is beyond comprehension. Even Fox overdid this story.

Yes, it’s terrible that the news is biased toward making money. The fact of the matter is that Americans, even those who watch Fox News, are more interested in Clinton’s heart than the ho-hum fact that American soldiers are doing their job uncovering another weapons cache.

I think most Americans take the following view: “We already knew that, we expected that, and we’re proud of the job they do. Now tell us what we don’t know - why Clinton’s last heart surgery wasn’t good enough. Especially those of us who follow the news, who tend to be older and at greater risk for heart attacks than Iraqi insurgent attacks.”

Myself, I don’t much care about either story, and I’m grateful for the internet so I don’t have to sit through boring stuff like this on the nightly news, like I used to. But I think it’s a little silly to be offended by the choices that the TV news editors make.

Dig, for one Clinton’s current situation is NOT related to some theory that the surgery “wasn’t good enough.” His surgery was a howling success in opening up his coronaries. The fluid buildup is something that happens occasionally and frankly can happen without surgery. It’s a minor event. That was my point. A serious medical crisis is news. This is a very minor complication. Sure it needs treatment but so does bronchitis. Would that make up fifteen minutes of a half hour section? The way the correspondents kept trying to get the Doc to say how serious this was annoyed me to no end. It is like they were trying desperately to make the condition newsworthy. It really was not.

I thought the weapons cache story was interesting, particularly hearing more about the Iraqis taking over their own defense. Frankly the way the Iraq story has been spun over the past few years ANY good news being reported is a real feat.

I can almost hear the production meetings in these newsrooms:

“Any stories out there??”

“No cheif, all we got is Bush this, and Bush that, freedom here, democracy here”

“Yeah, pretty depressing, isn’t it?? But hey, we gotta do it…”

“You know, guys, Clinton slept on the floor while Bush got the bed??”

“Great story!! Let’s get on it! Important stuff. People need to know…You…and you…get on it. What else?”

“Michael Jackson???”

“Already covering it. Have helos over his house watching his gardeners. We’re staying on top of things…Anything else??”

“We can do some more conspiracy theory spots??”

“No, no, leave that to the Europeans. The bloggers are killing us on stuff like that…”

(staffer rushes into room breathlessly…)

“Boss, Clinton is going in for some more surgery!!”

(audible gasps)

“Oh God, no!! Is he ok?? I need to call my wife! We need to get on it! The three of you get on the phone! I need quotes, people!! People want pictures, they want quotes!!..”

(reporters and production crews scurry off, leaving the Executive Producer alone with the young staffer)

*"*Uh, boss, you know that his surgery is just routine, right?? I mean, my dad and my uncle did this last summer"

“Son, this CLINTON were talking about, nothing is routine!! He saved us from…from…almost everything!! Did I tell you how he single-handedly created 20 million jobs…”

(fade to black)

With the Italian payoff, the insurgents will have to spend some of it to replace what we found…

BAHAHAHAHAHA! That is hilarious and probably darned close to the real behind the scenes activity. Say you are an undiscovered comic talent.

Don’t forget to throw in the fact that a democrat ex-president (clinton) gave his bed up so that a republic ex-president (bush) could sleep in the bed. This is a national security measure that should take precendence over all news.

god bless

I was right, not one word about the weapons caches on ABC or even the local FOX news.
