Within the last year, I have gone from praying nearly without ceasing to hating God and everyone around me. I have stopped all my daily dedications, stopped going to Mass, stopped everything but hating. I don’t understand why this has happened to me. I am afraid that if I have a resurgence in faith that my hatred will only come back stronger. Has anyone experience anything similar or have any advice?

Go to a priest he would be able to help more than most of us.

You have to make the deliberate choice to re-energize your spiritual life. Change the things that you are doing that leads you away from God’s presence and begin to do things that would bring you back to God… Like re-reading the bible, going to daily mass or eucharistic adoration, going on a retreat or doing mission work… There must be something thats dulling your life?

Would it be possible for you to go to a psychologist for counseling? Such a sudden, radical change in behavior could indicate that more is involved here than your spiritual life.

Well it seems to have been politely suggested that I’m crazy so I guess I have my answer. Thread Closed. 🤷

I doubt you are crazy this could be the devils doing so I suggest you go seek a priest for help.

#1: “Crazy” is a subjective term, and not really applicable in intelligent psychology.

#2: The poster is correct. Radical shifts in personality or interest usually indicate an imbalance in the chemical composition of the brain. This isn’t meant to be insulting, it’s meant to inform you that it’s a possible root problem that should be addressed. You wouldn’t take offense at someone telling you that you’ve got a gash in your arm that you should have looked at, so why take offense when someone tells you that you’re demonstrating symptoms that point towards a medical issue?

From a spiritual standpoint, have you considered going to confession and telling the priest about this? Hate is a very strong emotion, usually rooted in some other problems you’ve had in your life. This anger could also be a mortal sin if indulged in. If that is the case, a good confession may help to alleviate some of that anger, I know it works for me.

Why all the hate? What has gone so wrong in your life that hate is all you feel? These are questions you need to deal with so you can regain spiritual stability. I think a priest should be the one to help you through this.

All of us have time in life when things go just wrong. Friends leave us, relationships breakdown, jobs are lost, our health goes haywire, relatives die. This is when we get to find out just how much faith we have. It is easy to have faith when all is well. It is entirely another matter when everything seems lost and God is apparently silent.

I have been where you are at. What drove me there included multiple family deaths, my own illness and confinement, loss of work due to illness and dirty politics, poverty and activities within the Church that I simply could not reconcile in my heart and mind. I let my heart grow hard and became defiant. Bad idea.

Eventually I came to my senses and realized that God was not the problem or at fault for the losses, grief and pain in my life. In the end all these things made me more patient and understanding, helped me see my frailty and need for God, and reminded me that I can do nothing good without Him. Trials are allowed to strengthen us and purify us. Easy to say, harder to endure.

Suggesting counselling doesn’t mean anyone is calling you crazy. Your over-reaction is yet another indication that you need some help dealing with whatever this is. And obviously you already know that, or you wouldn’t have posted here.

Hopefully your post helped you, because your condescending attitude has done nothing for me.

Seek the counsel of your priest, talk to a friend and tell them all that rests heavily on your heart. Let it all out. You are not a Throw Away (I get the concept of a throw away account, but nonetheless), there aren’t any throw away human beings. All are precious in the eyes of God, that includes you. There is no hole that without perseverance and the love of others that you can’t crawl out of. I have and will pray for you.

Jesus says in the Scriptures that unless we forgive we shall not be forgiven by our heavenly Father. If you fear hell – and better still, if you love God – then forgive your enemies, pray for your persecutors and do good to them who hate you. Don’t be anxious about what may happen in the future, just be solicitous for your salvation in the present. Pray your rosary faithfully and daily to the Blessed Virgin and recommend yourself to her. Ask Mary to help you to able to forgive and to be able to have faith, hope and love again. Have a strong devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. An excellent book I recommend to you is: *Devotion to the Sacred Heart *by Fr. John Croiset, S.J. Please read it if you are looking for a big improvement to your spiritual life … and be sure to pray your rosary fervently and daily with 100% confidence that Mary will be able to help you to forgive and to lead a good spiritual life. God bless you.
