Hi, is there a catholic commentary on Ezekiel 7:9. It implies that God will have no mercy in end times.

Ezekiel 7:9
In Ezekiel 7:
8 Now very shortly I will pour out my wrath upon thee, and I will accomplish my anger in thee, and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and I will lay upon thee all thy crimes.
9 And my eye shall not spare, neither will I shew mercy: but I will lay thy ways upon thee, and thy abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and you shall know that I am the Lord that strike.
10 Behold the day, behold it is come: destruction is gone forth, the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.
It is about the time of the King of Babylon Nabuchodonosor II (Reign: 605-562 BCE). Ezekiel was born: 622 BC.

Haydock Commentary:
Ver. 10. Budded; figurative expressions, denoting a speedy vengeance. (Calmet) — Chaldean, “the reign is open, the ruler has flourished, the wicked hath appeared.” In this reign of Nabuchodonosor ye shall be chastised. (Haydock) — Septuagint or rather Theodotion, from whom many things have bee supplied according to St. Jerome, (Calmet) have, “The deceit (or thick foliage; ploke) has gone forth, the rod,” &c. (Haydock)

This verse of Ezekiel comes from a section which is specifically geared toward the “evil abominations of the house of Israel.” (Ezekiel 6:11) As Christians, we can understand this in the context of unrepentant sinners who have been called to judgement, whether at their death or the Second Coming. The house of Israel has been given this warning so that they might repent and receive mercy for their sins in this life so that at the time of Judgement, they shall not undergo the Justice of God. So too for Christians. Sinners who have been called to repentance and refuse, will be held to account for the entirety of their sins. It is to these sinners in their unrepentance that the Lord states, “My eye will not spare, nor will I take pity; I will hold your conduct against you since your abominations remain within you, then you shall know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes.” (Ezekiel 7:9) It is a warning meant to impel sorrow for our sins and preparation for our deaths in the form of penitence and reconciliation.

Mercy must be sought while we still walk this Earth. We must be prepared for our deaths by reconciling with the Lord while we still have the chance.

Then why does it start with “the end of the world is coming”

The end didn’t happen then

Where?
Ezekiel 7
5 Thus saith the Lord God: One affliction, behold an affliction is come.
6 An end is come, the end is come, it hath awaked against thee: behold it is come.
7 Destruction is come upon thee that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of slaughter is near, and not of the joy of mountains.

my bible this section is under “the end of the world is coming”

Douay Rheims Challoner section title is The final desolation of Israel, from which few shall escape. These are added for the reader and do not exist in every translation.

Hi, Vico!

I see Prophecy as deeper than an event or two… consider WWII–and the rest of times and places where the Jews, though they prosper, continue to be oppressed.

I fully concur.

It is sad to know that Jews have turned from Yahweh God and have even embraced homosexuality as just another option under God; yes, their suffering has been great (as many other peoples in the world and in time), yet they turn not to Yahweh God but from God.

Old Testament figures are often used as fore-images of Christ applied for spiritual edification rather than doctrine.
