I just failed my drivers test and I am really upset. My examiner was a jerk. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Cheer up. Lots of people fail their road test the first time around. I did.

Don’t blame it on the examiner. I’m sure he (or she) had good reason to fail you. You ought to thank him (or her). Accept responsibility, learn from your mistakes, and do better next time.

I know there were things I needed to improve on. I am not blaming it on the examiner, he did make me really nervous and I think he did it on purpose.

I didn’t pass the first time around, either.

I personally did not feel ready to take the test.

My parents were divorced, and my Mom didn’t have a car.

When I would stay with my Dad, he would take me driving with him and would let me drive, but that wouldn’t always happen where I would get the chance to drive.

He took me for my test one day and I told him that I didn’t think that I was ready, but he encouraged me anyway. I didn’t pass.

I didn’t get my license until after I was married, as that was when my husband and I were able to get a car together. He took me out practicing for awhile, and then when I felt ready, I took the test again and passed it that time. This was also at a different driver’s facility. 🙂

So use the time to improve your skills and retake it. You need to be able to drive even when you are nervous, or sad, or upset, so just learn to concentrate on your driving and you can “ignore” the examiner next time. Most likely, you will have a different person. Good luck on your next try!

Lots of people fail the first time. Don’t sweat it. Practice and try again.

Yeah, no worries, just take it again. I failed it twice and barely passed on my third try. I’ve been driving now for about 35 years and it took me until I was about 48 to learn to parallel park/ maneuverability because depending on where you live in the USA you might not ever have to parallel park, so I only learned when I moved to a place where it was a daily requirement.

Whatever you do, don’t stress about it…and if you were getting instructed by a high school instructor or a family member, it might be worth paying for a professional instructor from a driving school.

Edited to add, many, MANY of the driving test officials are not exactly “people persons” if you get my drift. Be prepared for them to act somewhere between disdainful and nasty. If you get a nice one, you’re lucky.

Ouch sorry 😐

At least there’s always next time.

That is kind of the point. If you are already that nervous, how do you think you would be driving around town? Or when someone pulls out if front of you? Tailgates you? It starts pouring rain? Or any other of the thousands of things that can happen when you drive.

The examiner wants to know how you drive while under pressure. Because driving isn’t something to do casually. It is something that should take all of your concentration.

The testers are testing on specific things, it is not their job to be “cool”, they are supposed to be very aware and to let you know when something is wrong. Don’t think of it as being a jerk, but, as making sure you are not a danger to yourself or others.

So few people learn to drive anymore, they simply get in and start driving. Pretty much no one under age 45 knows the proper following distance from other cars, how to pass correctly, how to use turn signals, how to parallel park the right way, how to be a courteous/defensive driver, how to merge into interstate traffic, how to use a roundabout. If people simply did these things, we would have FAR fewer accidents on the road!!

Study, practice and try again.

My niece failed her driving test the first time too. She passed on the second try.

If it’s any consolation, I passed the test on my first try 41 years ago, and then I was a terrible, irresponsible driver, getting in several accidents, accumulating many tickets, and having my insurance canceled ☹️😮. It took a few years for my maturity to catch up with my technical driving ability .

Don’t let a person’s social skills get to you - the instructor is probably permanently nervous! Just work on the action of driving - remembering the rules - you will do fine next time.

Look at it this way. They can’t make the test so easy that everybody passes on their first attempt. The result of that would be to make the roads a more dangerous place than they already are.

Count me among those who failed the first time! :raising_hand_man:
Of course that was a lifetime ago.

But just last month, I failed my CDL test 3 times. 😧
Now my employer is negotiating with the school whether I can get another try. My job does not depend on it, but it sure would be nice to pick it up.

I failed my first drivers test because it was on a computer and I had never interacted with one before.
