It does not say faith alone, more over no one use any verse in the bible to the exclusion of others. St. Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 1317: dikaiosunh <1343> {RIGHTEOUSNESS} gar <1063> {FOR} qeou <2316> {OF GOD} en <1722> {IN} autw <846> {IT} apokaluptetai <601> (5743) {IS REVEALED} ek <1537> {BY} pistewV <4102> {FAITH} eiV <1519> {TO} pistin <4102> {FAITH;} kaqwV <2531> {ACCORDING AS} gegraptai <1125> (5769) {IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN,} o <3588> {BUT} de <1161> {THE} dikaioV <1342> {JUST} ek <1537> {BY} pistewV <4102> {FAITH} zhsetai <2198> (5695) {SHALL LIVE.}

I notice you capitalized “His” and “Him”, which we usually do only when those pronouns apply to God. Does that mean that the man was referring to Jesus’ faith? In other words, is your post to be understood as follows:“righteous will live by faith” (Rom 1:17)
I once heard a man state that actually this verse reads “the righteous will live by His faith(or faithfulness).” Without Him being faithful we would be dead. Any thoughts?
What he meant was His faith. It was a long time ago but, he stated that Paul was using the verse in Habakkuk 2:4. I try not to involve myself in discussions over words because of where it usually leads. But, just in my personal walk with the Lord, I know that it has been all Him. I can’t even take credit for the faith that I have in Him. For example, the portion of Scripture that reads “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” The word word is not logos but rheama, in other words, it is a spoken word not a written word. In other words again, If God didn’t tell me to hear, I wouldn’t have been able to hear, and when He told me to hear, I heard and had faith. I probably should have kept my mouth shut, but the fact that I’m a disciple of Jesus Christ has nothing to do with me and everything to do with Him. I live because He is faithful.
