Looking for book references, articles, links, websites, videos…

Anything for helping parents talk to their children about things like chastity, the value of life and marital unions, homosexuality, abortion, masterbation, pronography and the media. Preferably seeking references that are up to speed with the current issues our kids are facing in today’s society.

I have an 8yr and 13yr old girl and a 15yr old son. So, I can use references that look at and can prepare me to take on these issues from all different angles. Issues that focus on homosexuality in particular would be of great help, being that this is an issue that has hit close to home for us in dealing with a particular family member. I really want to be able to discuss these issues with my kids in a way that is constructive and positive and that they can understand and apply to their lives.

Thank you in advance, I’ll take all the help I can get. A few prayers wouldn’t hurt either.

Theology of the Body for Teens is the program they use in my kids’ Catholic High School. I have been to the parents meetings and it is very “modern” as well as theologically sound.

There is another one called Sex Respect that I have heard good things about but haven’t seen in person. It has a pre-teen version too.

I helped with Confirmation last year. We went to a youth rally where Chris Stefanick spoke. You can find him on You Tube or Facebook. His talk “No Limitations” is about chastity. The kids loved him. He uses humor and holds the teenagers interest. Believe me, that is not easy to do these days.

Regarding my previous post…might be too mature for the 8 year old.

Thank you for all the suggestions and for the encouragement. We are in a spiritul battle and prayer is our biggest weapon. Let us pray for the children, that The Lord strengthen them and protect them as they are truly in a fight for their lives, being attacked at every turn, and most don’t even realize it.

Pray, pray, pray!!!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit

Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
Our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those that trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
And Blessed is the fruit if thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Lady of perpetual help, pray for us.

Most sacred heart of Jesus, we place our trust in Thee.
Most sacred heart of Jesus, we place our trust in Thee.
Most sacred heart of Jesus, we place our trust in Thee.

Amen.

St. Francis Books (www.stfrancisbooks.com) has a pair of lovely books for explaining delicate matters to children, beginning at age 9. The one for girls is called “Mother’s Little Helper” and the one for boys is called “Listen, Son”. I’m going to order the one for girls for my 9-year-old stepdaughter.
