VATICAN CITY, MARCH 24, 2010 (Zenit.org).- There is no opposition between faith and science, says Benedict XVI, who proposed the example of St. Albert the Great to illustrate this truth.

The Pope considered this 13th century saint today during the general audience in St. Peter’s Square. “He still has much to teach us,” the Pontiff said of him.

“St. Albert shows that between faith and science there is no opposition, notwithstanding some episodes of misunderstanding recorded in history,” Benedict XVI proposed. “…] St. Albert the Great reminds us that between science and faith there is friendship, and that the men of science can undertake, through their vocation to the study of nature, a genuine and fascinating journey of sanctity.”

The Holy Father noted how Albert effected a cultural shift by accepting and evaluating the thought and works of Aristotle.

You just reinforced my assertion that evolution is a big fat satanic lie. God has will and intellect, monkeys do not. We were created in God’s image. God is not an animal. Evolution is an insult to the Almighty God that created us!

Let’s charitably slow down a bit here. Last I checked, “clay of the ground” lacks intellect and will as well, yet God found that sufficient raw material to create Man.

The issue that evolution addresses is how He created Man. What did the building process look like? Church Tradition does not fill in too much of the detail here. But those who study the process, even if they wouldn’t theosify their endeavor the way I did, are free to inquire. It could be seen as quite pridefully presumptuous to think to unduly restrict how God decides to do just this.

Now, Church Tradition does strongly point out that the process (whatever it was) was never outside the embrace of His will. Some scientists (mistakenly of course) suggest that they can show it was outside that embrace. That is a threat indeed, but it is not the fault of science (one of the dual topics of the OP). Science simply is neither intended nor equipped to show that (nor to refute it, for that matter). It is rather that the Devil knows a good argument-from-authority candidate to spread his lies when he sees one.
