Faith like a mustard seed- how can we learn from others to make sure all Catholic seeds root themselves deeply in the church?

According to the 2006 US Census more people are declaring themselves as ‘non religious’ and fewer people are identifying as Roman Catholic. What have we learned from other traditions to make membership stronger and deeply rooted in Catholicism? Any other creative ideas, was thinking we could compile a list that might enrich the “Catholics Come Home” campaign…

Pope John Paul the Great said that the greatest enemy of Christianity was Christians. Our lives are the greatest testimony to our faith, or lack thereof. I work with teenagers in my Church and my motto is plant the seeds and pray for rain. It is God who transforms hearts, not us.

Since 2005 the Catholic Church grew by 5-million. Benedict XVI was just quoted in this in Light in of the World.

The RCIA is the start or Catholic School if possible

But to answer your question about being rooted in the Catholic Church. Its real easy, continue the process of Confession, Communion, and weekly Mass. Holy days of Obligation.

A meditative/contemplative prayer recitation is excellent also. I pray the Rosary. Others may recommend other Devotions. I do this because I witnessed it work in my life. Its not even a question of if I think it works, or maybe it works. I know it works. I’m a living testimony to it.

Honestly you should pray and hour an day. You fall short, then you fall short. I make it a point to at least do 5-decades of the Rosary Daily. I often pray the prayer to St Michael.

Bible, and reading on those who walked this path before us such as the Saints, Popes etc, is another big help. I read 3-4 book a week so I don’t find this hard. I understand its difficult for some. I enjoy reading and music more than TV:shrug:

I will watch History, Science and Bio. But the drival I have no use for. It promotes all nonsense.

The idea isn’t perfection, its walking in the right direction. And its takes an Honest efffort. Not a week or a month, Give it a year, and your Faith will change. The only place “success” comes before “work” is in the dictionary.

I was told when I started praying the Rosary, I would either stop sinning or stop praying the Rosary. Its impossible to do both. I’m here to tell you its true.

What Catholic Mass you attend is another issue.

God Bless, GT

Coming here is big help also. There are many who come here who have some wonderful perspectives and insights.

Simply put, I learn something everytime I come here. I’m convinced God works through here. 👍

Speak up when people say things that are wrong, morally and academically. “Be Not Afraid”, a famous quote attributed to Pope John Paul II, is really scripture. Do not allow bishops, priests, deacons, brothers or sisters try to hush you when you know something is wrong. This is how we, as a Christian community will regain our reputation. Do not allow those in authority try to use the “authority over you card” to manipulate you into silence. There is nothing obedient about allowing mortal sin to continue when it is obvious that it exists. Don’t let them get away with it.

The injured usually crawl within themselves and breaking from the Church is what ends up giving them a feeling of freedom from condemnation and pain. It is a rush to feel free from tyranny. Now the Church is not a tyrannical organization. It is the men and women that abuse authority within their role that are the tyrants. There is not difference between them and the teachers of the law and the pharisees.

First, learn your faith. Learn to defend it from those that contradict it. Learn to be a loving and kind person to show that God loves, not hates. Scold those that abuse their position. Be as kind as possible towards them, but do not allow it to go unnoticed, because the ones running from the Church feel powerless and hopeless. They visualize God through the acts of those appointed over us and from our neighbors. Stand up for truth, always.

Now that you’re ready to bo up and attack, step back and pray, pray, pray. Be kind and gentle, never pass condemnation but judge one another with love. The scriptures tell us to correct each other. Those that contradict this are not of God, that is their words. A holy man may contradict and those words they say that are not true are not of God, which would be most likely all of them. BUT that does not mean they are not Godly men. Most try to do the right thing. But we have to remember that they are probably doing the best they can, being broken from our woundedness from the sin of Adam and Eve. Be kind, but never be ashamed to correct them when they say something contradictory to the faith. Just don’t do it like a jerk. Do it with love and kindness. If they jump on you, tell them that God loves them and so to I. Provide them with references when they are absolutely wrong. But if its about making a joke during the homily, please, get a life. St. Francis taught his brothers to lighten up with humor. If a brother was acting poorly he’d tell them to go to confession and comeback with a humorous spirit (misstated, but generally the meaning still holds). Don’t be a legalistic jerk either. I’m talking about dogmatic things. And if you don’t really know then don’t say anything. Be nice, but be firm in your faith.

For those that leave, pray for them because somewhere someone failed them on some level. Some of those people come back home. Be ready with open arms for when they do return. Just my thoughts about everything I’ve said.

OMG isnt it obvious; focus all our attention on Jesus Christ, our light ; our hope ; our saviour . Make sure that every child hears the message of Christ in their homes; make sure every Sinner knows Christ came for them and would suffer another crucifiction to save them. When this gets into our hearts then the prayers and the Mass and all the rest will help us keep the message and do our best to lead the life Christ wants. I dont believe anyone who knows Christ ever could leave the Church because he is the Church.

**But i agree we need to be more urgent in spreading this message and pray more.

" the harvest is great but the labourers are few" pray that God sends more labourers.**
