In The Letter to the Hebrews, Chapter 11, Verses 1-2 state:
Code:
Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested.
Please give an example of when the ancients were well attested because of faith.

Genesis 15:6 Abram put his faith in the LORD, who attributed it to him as an act of righteousness.*

I would say that Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel, Joshua etc. could attest to what faith in God can do.

Genesis 41: 39,40
The king said to Joseph, "God has shown you all this, so it is obvious that you have greater wisdom and insight than anyone else. I will put you in charge of my country, and all my people will obey your orders. Your authority will be second only to mine.
Does that count as attesting?

Oldburkes, Yes, the king’s statement is an attesting. He realized Joseph, with his insight, could make suggestions to prepare for upcoming circumstances.

For me, all of Heb. 11 supports the first two verses, so I’m not really sure what you are asking. But I’ll share what helped me to see a ‘key point’ that isn’t obviously stated…Trust.

For me, it was Trust that led to Faith. I first saw ‘how it worked’ in AA, but have seen it in many situations since then.

Noah first trusted God when his ‘reason’ would have told him it was absurd. He Trusted, and built the ark. Faith followed. Faith is not ‘belief’.

Joshua telling his men that they had to march around Jericho for six days - I’d think that went against his (and his men’s) ‘reason’…but he/they did it anyway and his Faith grew.

Things ‘work backward’ on the spiritual path (from my experience)…it’s “Do. Then Understand.”

In the Mass for Friday, March 21st, The Responsorial Psalm was Psalm 105.
Joseph was mentioned.
Code:
Till his prediction came to pass
and the word of the Lord proved him true.

The king sent and released him,
the ruler of the peoples set him free.
He made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions.
This is a beautiful narrative of the attesting.

:yup:

How about Joshua 2: 8-11 and 6: 22-25 where Rahab hid the spies and had faith that their Lord was God in Heaven and earth. Joshua spared her and her household when they took Jericho, and she and her descendants lived in the midst of Israel.

This is expressed by Augustine: “I believe that I may understand.”

It has also been my experience that faith leads to obedience, and obedience will give you a deeper understanding than any book-learning will. Obedience gives you a more intimate understanding, because it is a “hands-on” type of learning.

Abraham was about to sacrifice his son on the altar when God stopped Him. His obedience to God was tested, his faith also.
