Yesterday I went to a Corpus Christi procession, and there was about six First Holy Communion children there. Some other children joined them in scattering flowers before the Blessed Sacrament. There was several stops for prayer at different altars. The children were lined up behind the altar, and the rest of the people were gathered to the sides and the front. After each set of prayers, the priest did a blessing with the monstrance. I noticed at one stop that he began by blessing the children. There was no reaction - even from the First Communicants - they just stood there… except for one little girl - possibly the smallest child, about five years old and much younger than the First Communicants. She knew to bless herself without seeing any adults doing so or without being told. And it really stood out that she did this and I thought it was wonderful - God bless her. Once she did it, then the child beside her imitated and blessed herself too. 🙂

Wasn’t it written somewhere…Let the little children, lead them!

Its what happens when parents spend time with their children teaching them the simple matters of our faith. My dad was this way and I would do the same if I had kids. I see it in a parish I’ve been visiting that is more orthodox in nature. The parents are so into teaching their children about faith. Everything is done as a family and I’ve just been so impressed. I remember the comforts I had as a small child during that time.

I too saw six First Holy Communicants and watched them kneel on cement for up to 10 minutes or longer without even a flinch during the procession.

That is a beautiful story!!! It gives one hope, doesn’t it? Sometimes, as a parent, I fear that I’m trying to teach “too much”. This shows that it’s worth every second. Thanks for sharing.

I agree this represents a beautiful childlike faith; however, let’s give credit to her parents. That’s probably where she first learned it.
