Yesterday I went to a Corpus Christi procession, and there was about six First Holy Communion children there. Some other children joined them in scattering flowers before the Blessed Sacrament. There was several stops for prayer at different altars. The children were lined up behind the altar, and the rest of the people were gathered to the sides and the front. After each set of prayers, the priest did a blessing with the monstrance. I noticed at one stop that he began by blessing the children. There was no reaction - even from the First Communicants - they just stood there… except for one little girl - possibly the smallest child, about five years old and much younger than the First Communicants. She knew to bless herself without seeing any adults doing so or without being told. And it really stood out that she did this and I thought it was wonderful - God bless her. Once she did it, then the child beside her imitated and blessed herself too.
