I’m not sure if this is the right section to post this question, but here goes:

I have a friend who is a meth addict who’s in a very dark place now. If you google the effects of meth you will know that it damages the brain somewhat. I’m trying to get him to seek some professional help. But he’s been hanging around a bunch of protestants who insist on going to God only for help. So he’s been stubborn about getting help from professionals.

How do i explain to him that he needs human help too? He thinks it’s against his faith to get help other than from God.

But can’t help from God come in the form of other people? Does he not believe it possible God will connect him with people who will help him? Has he not thought in the past that God has guided him quietly to another person? And if his refrigerator quit, and he prayed for help, and he won a hundred bucks in a contest and got sales call from a hundred dollar refrigerator repairman, would he not put all that together and admit yes, God helped him by sending him to other people? And if those people are wearing lab coats, does that matter?

If there’s a Protestant influence, ask him to ask them what biblical reference that there is to support the “Faith only” healing.

It’s real easy to find where God works through people in Scripure.

Then ask if he had a medical condition, like an infection or such, would he not seek the help of a doctor?

Addictions are legitimate medical conditions.
