Faith to move mountains

*Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. * Matthew 10:1

*Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. * Matthew 10:8

It’s very clear that the apostles were instructed to heal, raise the dead, cleanse, etc. My question is, why do we not see the same sorts of things done nowadays?

I think about this every so often… how much faith it would really take to heal one of an illness or to raise someone from the dead…

Are we now just lacking in the faith that the apostles had?

Sometimes I ask myself the same question, but then I think of the things that we do in this day and age that surpasses what the Apostles did. If we look at what medical science has accomplished, esp. in the last century, it would seem miraculous to the ancient cultures. God has given us the tools and the intelligence to make marvelous new discoveries and apply them to the betterment of mankind. We actualy do heal the sick and cleanse the lepers. In our arrogance, we forget who the Giver of these gifts is, and want to take the credit for everything, but really all of this is God working in and through us. (Although some abuse His gifts.)

I believe that God will and has set aside the natural order of things to miraculously intervene when He deems it necessary, and according to His Divine Will, but most of the time He works through the natural order that He has created. And I really think that God’s natural order and His creation are absolutely miraculous.

I know this does not answer the question, but then again, I don’t know if there really is a satisfactory answer to it. I’ve never heard of a really dead person actually being raised (outside of what was mentioned), nor have I ever heard of a mountain actually being moved by someone’s faith.

Read the life of St Padre Pio (Capuchin) and also St Teresa of the Andes (Carmelite), I’m sure there are many more, but St Padre Pio raised the dead and cured the sick, he had faith to move mountains and I am sure there are many other little saints whom the Church does not recognise who through faith and prayer Jesus works many miracles.
