   Why is there a big gap in what the pope teaches and what the local parishes teach?
And what could resolve it?
When you show priests evidence of god `s excience and promote
e w t n they don’t want to know. But they are full of new age sayings.

Assuming you’re in America, what you are experiencing is the fall out from the misinterpretation and misrepresentation of Vatican II in this country. Things are starting to swing back to more orthodox position; however, there are many pockets of the country where some American priests, particularly of Baby Boom age, are still doing some decidedly unorthodox things.

IMHO, the Church has decided to let time cure this problem and seems to be doing a much better job training new priests. It’s frustrating. I live in the west suburbs of Portland, Oregon and its hard to find a parish here that still has a crucifix in the sanctuary.

I’m glad you brought this up, because yesterday I went to Sunday Mass for the first time in the U.S. and my priest’s sermon sounded to me a bit Marxist. I don’t know either what to do about it, other than accept my priest just like my father accepted me.

Remember, the Mass is why one is there, and that is the same Truth… the sermon is the Priest talking. The readings are from the Bible and again True.

And I’ve had some young energetic Priest’s, and some older and wiser Priest’s. Some are penny wise and pound foolish; others are pound wise and penny foolish. Remember, they do have a Human side when in the pulpit. Christ set the script for the Mass which they follow, as well as the Bible.

New Age sayings are common place in our language, as are other sayings from long ago and sayings from the Bible, and sayings from songs one hears, and sayings of commercial slogans one sees on TV, and on and on… Sometimes I have difficulty understanding what a young child is talking about since I know nothing about ‘Sponge Bob’. More sayings will filter into our language, where they come from or who takes a shine to them is anybodies guess. Is it loving or hurtful? That is the question…
