please pray that I have faith in God. I have been praying a novena for my kids and I cannot get faith to save my life. I feel like the prayer is just empty because I do not believe. I don’t want to believe in case my novena does not come true and I will be devastated. this is my life. always think the worse and be pleasantly surprised when it isn’t the worse. however, it is a terrible way to live to always think the worst. How do other people handle this?? how can I have faith but not feel devastated when my prayers aren’t answered?

Our prayers are ALWAYS answered, but sometimes the answer is no. God ultimately knows what’s best for us even if we can’t see it. Remember that His goal is to get you (and everyone else) to heaven- it’s not to be happy here on Earth.

Don’t despair!! That’s what the enemy wants us to do!! Jesus understands your feelings and emotions - he is right there with you!! Your faith shows in your desire to feel more for God! Remember what Jesus said about faith;

Matthew 17:20 Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

If you google mustard tree…you’ll see how BIG that mustard seed can grow.

God loves us so much that He considers faith the size of a mustard seed enough faith. Get into the Word, for there is Jesus and surround yourself with His people.

I prefer to think God always answers our prayers, but in the following ways:

Yes
Not right now
I have a better way

The biggest challenge to us is to be able to discern when God answers our prayer, and then what the answer is.

For the original poster, I might suggest you are “seeing as men see.” Relax and know the God always wants what is best for us. Sometimes what is best for us in not what we would choose, and sometimes it involves passing through a struggle.

I appreciate this information. the key is discerning. And also “accepting”. I need to get past that.
 
Persistent prayer is the key. Padre Pio would say “Pray , hope and don’t worry”
