Hi, I am new here so excuse me if this is posted in the wrong forum. I am 23 and was raised Catholic, and even went to Catholic school. Over the years and mostly in my teens I gave up on religion. I didn’t feel like it existed in me anymore. I still have never thought the teachings of church were ever bad for me and even though I didn’t believe much anymore, I always still wanted to have my kids go. I think church is important for everyone because it can teach you how to be a great person.

Back to why I am really here; I keep finding my self wanting to go back to mass, and get involved again. I just cant seem to convince my self that god is really there, and the bible is all true. I loved every minute of my childhood, and going to church and Catholic school was a very big part of it. Something keeps bringing me back, and I even found my self reading the bible. I just want to believe. To be honest, I have forgotten all of the things one would do at mass, its been that long for me. I don’t even know what to say in confession. I guess there is no direct question here, but if anyone can still help, please shoot some posts at me.

pretty simple action plan
return to Mass
you can follow along in the missalette after a while, but at first just be there, listening and watching
go to confession and confess all sins since your last confession
come back to the Lord in Holy Communion
pray every day

That’s brilliant! Sounds like a gentle nudge. Do you read much? I’m sure folks here could recommend some good books. Also there’s Catholic radio and EWTN on the tv. They can help reaquaint you with your faith. Time to come home to Rome!
👍 :hug3: :extrahappy: :blessyou:

I just wanted to suggest a book written by C.S. Lewis called Mere Christianity. It discusses the concerns you listed & goes into great detail. It’s a great read.

thank you. i will go look for it this week.

so this issue i have is some what common?

Cradle Catholics who have strayed somewhat wanting to find their faith again? Sure, happens all the time. Doesn’t mean it isn’t special each time it happens. God bless and I hope you rediscover your faith 🙂 .

I think a lot of people go through times where they question there faith. About 12 years ago I went through a time where I considered myself agnostic. I just had a lot of unanswered questions about why I believed in God. I think a lot of it had to with the fact that my parents & I never went to church while growing up. They believed in God but, my dad was kind of fanatical about finding the one correct church & he was very anti-Catholic. So I really didn’t know too much about God. I had a Bible but, that was about it. I didn’t even really know how to go about praying.

I really think that questioning what you believe can actually bring you closer to God. I think it’s a sign that you might be missing something in your faith & this uncertainty can be a motivator to find out more about God & find a deeper faith from that knowledge gained.

You are trying to understand to believe. *
You must believe to understand.
Make a commitment to do those things that the Lord has asked of us and in the doing faith will come. *
Faith is a gift. ***
Faith is trust. ***
Trust the Lord and
all will be well.
He will grace your heart
when you least expect it
.

Confession, Holy Eucharist and Prayer.

Its wonderful that you desire the mass. You have a stronger relationship with Jesus than you think. Meditate on the Stations of the Cross and imagine yourself there with Him. Examine your conscience and identify what could be keeping you separated from GOD. Get back to confession and experience the mercy of Jesus working thru the priest. Ask the priest to help you with making a good confession. 👍
