I’m looking to buying some traditional Catholic Books, specifically the Catechism of the Council of Trent, but I am wary of supporting some publishers that I fear might be sedevacantist.

I know Baronius Press is faithful but their books are not for sale in South Africa.

What publishers would you recommend who are both traditional and faithful to the Magisterium?

Amazon and ebay only sell items, they don’t publish them.

I did however get a nice Kindle Copy of the Catechism of St Pius X on Amazon, for $1.14, so thanks for your help in that respect.

Anything from the FSSP or ICKSP is good.
You mean this site? It’s the FSSP publishing house.

So anything I find that is on this site that is for sale here will be completely above board?

On an unrelated note I have heard of the FSSP, they are very faithful and doing an excellent job restoring traditional liturgy and reverance.

If it has the nihil obstat and/or imprimatur/imprimi potest, then yeah definitely. Any books on that site should have these things.

I bought an SSPX 1962 Latin missal because it was the most affordable. Missals from other publishers were typically daily missals that ran around $60, but this one doesn’t contain the propers and was only $8.00. Is that a problem?

I see no issue with a Missal from them… Just be wary of any commentary in front of the book.

Surprisingly there isn’t. Just the ordinary of the 1962 TLM and prayers after mass, and for exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the back.

Sounds good to me.

It’s really about discernment. If you’re Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, you’re going to be able to read any SSPX material with 0 chance of developing schismatic attitudes yourself.

If you’re Joe Catholic, there’s a serious risk that if you’re wishy washy in the faith or not catechized well, or if you’re only 17 years old, etc. then there’s a serious danger that reading SSPX material could harm you in a major way.

It really depends on your level of faith, knowledge, maturity, how well catechized you are, etc.

I’m assuming that you want a hard copy, but I should mention that the catechism of which you speak is available for free online. Just do an online search.

Hey you were right, I got a PDF. Thanks.
But I would still like one in book form, like the CCC or the Enchiriondon Symbolorum.

(name removed by moderator) already mentioned my suggestions but here is a picture of a Traditional Catholic’s library with more books that you might be interested in

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

There is a point when you zoom in that it becomes blurry so you will not be able to make out every title but enough to keep you busy.

Just remembered another publisher…Loreto Publications…Classic Catholic Books From Yesterday and Today…

If you buy whatever book you wish second-hand, then the original publisher is not getting any of the money (assuming they aren’t also running the second-hand shop). Therefore, you’re not supporting the original publisher.

I find this useful for when I want to read a book but do not want to give any money to the author and can’t find it in a library, or want a copy to own.

I know someone else already mentioned TAN publishers and I would recommend them as well. Especially if you find their books secondhand. I believe they were purchased by Saint Benedict Press in 2008 and they discontinued selling a few of their original titles that were critical of Vatican II and particularly a tract booklet called Which Bible Should You read, which was also critical of modern bible translations.

However, they still have a very good selection of traditional and orthodox Catholic books that are great for studying the faith.

Our priest (FSSP) chose Baltimore Catechism III (Seton Press) ISBN 978-1-60704-116-0 for his weekly catechism class. Rare for a reference manual, includes scripture for each question, and self help QA. I like the “study room” narration of the chapters, and it’s invitation to quiet study.
