It seems to me that through the help of God simon peter was stronger than that demon that visited him inside his cell before he was going to be killed.
Now that was just a demon, this begs me to ask the question through prayer and strong faithfullness to God can’t humans become stronger than the devil.

If anyone is wondering where I got the info on Peter there is a good movie on Netflix called Apostle Peter and the last supper.

That’s a shame - it must not be on the UK Netflix.

Can anyone recommend any films or TV series for me to build my knowledge?

Unfortunately, I will probably never get to the UK except by documentaries and lots of fictional TV series that are broadcast here. I just watched 17 seasons of Midsomer Murders and I’m working through Inspector Morse. I never caught on with Dr. Who.

I don’t think I know enough to recommend a TV series that will promote your growth in faithfulness. I’m reading a book entitled The Teachings of the Church Fathers by John R. Willis SJ which was copyrighted in 1966 and is currently published by Ignatius Press. I’m about 50 pages of 479. It is remarkable how Catholic belief is clearly stated so early in Church history.

The introduction describes this book as easy to read - you can decide that. But, it is a long collection of short essays organized under specific topical headings. Some things written there don’t agree exactly with today’s understanding of faith, but one has to realize that all doctrinal matters were not universally defined.

So, there’s one quotation that says the church resides in the bishops, priests, and deacons. Of course, the Church includes them and us people too. But, you can figure out that what was intended, that someone who is “faithful” is loyal to the bishops, priests, and deacons.

I haven’t yet warmed up to the programs by Father (now Bishop) Robert Barron available from EWTN but he seems to be popular. More broadly, any of the series and corresponding books by Dr. Scott Hahn more or less focus on reasons for us to be faithful. Also, visit his website at www.salvationhistory.com.

I didn’t care for that movie, even though I did like Robert Loggia. It was Biblically inaccurate, it minimizes Peter’s role as head of the Church, and the acting was subpar. My red flag went up at the scene where Jesus meets Peter for the first time, and asks “Who do people say that I am?” Obviously the timing of this is way off, and they casually omit the part where Jesus gives Peter the keys to the Church.

You can clearly tell the movie was made by Protestants and not Catholics, which is further evident in the Last Supper scenes. I would definitely not recommend this movie, unless you’re looking for a completely fabricated version of Biblical history. Unfortunately, the premise was great as we don’t get to see movies focusing on St. Peter, but the result was a major letdown.
