I’m in dire need of some help. I used to believe that I was a devout Catholic but I have fallen away from the Church in the last six months. I’m in mortal sin and I just feel like I can’t see my way back.

Thank you so very much. I haven’t said The Rosary is a while. I still manage to wear my Crucifix and medals and my prayers at mealtimes but not much else. I just feel spent.

Go to a different priest. Go to a different Parish. Go behind the screen. You don’t die in Mortal Sin - it hurts God as much as it hurts you. He created your soul out of nothing. He loves you exceedingly. He wants you to be in heaven forever. Confess your sins. Ask advice. Go in peace.

The Enemy of your soul wants nothing more than to seduce you with the thoughts that you can never change, never be who God has created you to be. The Enemy wants you to live in shame and in fear; he doesn’t want you to know that true humility begins with the realization of your sinfulness and that God is greater than your sins and that He is reaching out to you in mercy. Your sorrow is already a sign of God’s merciful love; now turn back to His Church to be fully reunited with Him through the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion.

Prayer does not need to lengthy. A simple, “Jesus, help me” does wonders when it is all you can do to utter a prayer.

Christophorus, there is nothing that you can tell a priest in confession that he has not heard before, and worse. The feeling you will get when you do this is indescribable. No matter what, God loves you. He always has and He always will. I know it is hard to confess things that you are ashamed of, but the priest will help you. You don’t even have to give all the details. But do go. I will be praying for you. Many of us have been where you are and you will find support and understanding on the forum.

The Sacrament of Confession is a not a sacrament of jugment, but a sacrament of mercy and healing. As has been pointed out, go to a different parish if it will be easier. Get back in the state of grace and return to Jesus in the Eucharist. Ask His mother to clothe you in her mantle and to obtain the grace you need to make a good confession. Jesus is waiting for you with open arms, as Scripture tells us, our eternal Father and the angels will rejoice!!

And go as often and as many times as you commit the sin(s). It will take time to finally be free of the sin, cause the devil is after your soul…never give up…God will keep forgiving you and will give you grace to help you fight. Also, spend time in adoration whenever you can…this will help you be closer to Christ and gain His strength to avoid sin.

Christophorus, I know what it’s like to sin reptitively, over and over and not want to go back to confession. The intense desire to sin followed by the intense shame. It sucks; royally.

In revelation to Sr. Faustina, Christ himself said he would forgive a “million million times” Thats’ 1,000,000,000,000. Even if you committed a particular sin 1000 times a day, every day, for 100 years, it’s still only 36,500,000.

It’s a silly analogy but it compares the mercy of our Lord with our sinfulness.

Christophorus, I feel your pain man. I just went back to daily mass this morning after being away for more than a year. I got so frustrated with myself for comitting the same sins over and over again that I’d go to different priests on a rotating basis so none of them would get tired of seeing me. I started to view myself as pre-destined for hell. Because, after all, if I was going to heaven, I wouldn’t have such a tough time right?

WRONG!

We’re all flawed. Some of us more so than others. Once you accept that, then you can start to work on areas that need fixing. Take it a step at a time and go to confession as much as you need to.

Try to get involved with others your age who can lift you up when things get rough. I’m single and live in a small town, so being isolated is definitely not good.

I’ll pray for you.

Are you trying to follow religion, or to grow closser to Jesus?

Jesus should be your focus. It is through his grace that we are given the strength to overcome temptation.

However, even when we fail, we must always look to the mercy of Jesus. He is the source of transforming grace, which will help us to grow towards holiness. We merely have to be open to Him.
