From Eucharistic Prayer II:
What has always struck me as odd about this passage, is that those who have “fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection”, and “all who have died in your mercy” are mentioned as separate groups. Clearly they are not considered the same. Why not? What’s the difference between one who has fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and one who has died in God’s mercy?“Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.”
