False Advertising

There is an organization that I looked into joining. It is advertised as a non-denominational Christian group. I know that that means protestant, but it is a club that covers a hobbie of mine, so I looked into it. Lo and behold, they represent a form of protestantism that I think most Christians are not part of. Why even call youself non-denominational when you are?

Second, there have been several mega-churches around here that are Southern Baptist but do not even call themselves such. THeir phone book ads don;t even list them in that section. You can find out if you call and ask or even make it to the door. Why not advertise it?

Around here, non-denominational means that the church usually has a pretty fundamentalist understanding of Christianity based on a very literal reading of the Protestant form of the Christian Bible. It also means that they are not affiliated officially with any particular denomination. This is quite a different thing from ecumenical or interdenominational, which means including many different denominations.

Do you mean that you called the church and asked, “Is your church a member of the Southern Baptist Convention” and they said, “Yes, it is”?
 
it could be that by advertising as a non denominational church, they actually believe they are as baptists. Or, it could mean that since non denominational denominations are the popular thing right now and they want to get more members and that would also mean more money to support what they believe. I don’t know?
 
But in Alabama, SBC is the KING. Why not appeal to it?

I understand what you are saying about non-denominational, and that is true in schools and churches, but why in clubs? Why not say fundamentalist? Actually, this group was more like Jesus-only Church of Christ
