False gods in video games?

Hey, a fellow Crusader Kings II player! I’ve spent many hours trying to reunite the Pentarchy as the Byzantine empire, and it is no mean feat! I confess I have also done a playthrough as the Latin Empire where I subjugated virtually the entire Orthodox world except for a few enclaves in Russia–then I got squashed by the Mongols. Ah well.
That’s ok. I’m currently playing an Old Gods game as the Karling Dynasty and created the Holy Roman Empire. I married a Byzantine Princess so my son can inherit her claim on the Empire. All of Europe will soon be German-Catholic (I’ve done the Pentarchy thing before. A bit anticlimactic toward the end). 😃

Gods in fantasy games, video or otherwise, are fictional. The characters we play in those games are fictional too, like the protagonist in a novel. The only real difference is that the story is interactive, which is why we are called players instead of readers or viewers.

I do not find any spiritual harm in such games, unless one becomes addicted to them or loses touch with reality… but those dangers are present to a degree in most any hobby or pastime.
