The Church was a Independant Baptist in which the Pastor has basically built the church. It is not part of any Denomination or anything , just “Independant Baptist”

Also there are not many Catholics in my area of South Carolina ,
Could someone explain the infants are born again through Baptism thing to me, as a new Catholic I just dont understand , Is it part of , as a whole , the first three Sacrements taken together. I was raised Pentecostal and I know that when we " got saved" Baptism followed next , almost immediatley , I just want to know how to defend my Faith better. I have looked in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. all help appreciated.

Catholic Home Study Service has a website offering many books for free - one is by Fr. Lukefahr called “We Believe”. I have found it quite readable and explanatory. I also think as a recent convert you are probably better prepared to defend the faith than the present generation of 20 to 30 something Catholics, who were not well served by their Church as far as catechesis (sp).

I would go to my local drug store, pick up a big black sharpie marker and a neon green poster board and write the following, “You can thank Catholics for the Bible” and duct tape it to the message board. :dancing:

I don’t think that I’ll ever get used to it. For me, it started in third grade when I was called an idol worshipper. Now as an adult, I hear that the Church is the whore of Babylon, and all that other nonsense.

How do I personally deal with it? I come in here to Catholic Answers forums and discuss it.

I would talk to him about it.

I have seen some really odd things. There are a lot of really mean people out there, and even more ignorant ones. Some of the time you can’t do much because of the situation.

In my humble opinion, this is what you should do…

Order 100 or more copies of “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth” from CA, and stand on the public sidewalk in front of this church on Sunday after their services to hand the tracts out to people as they exit the building.

Don’t engage in heated argument. Act charitably.

If anyone demands an explanation, simply say that you’re offering the tract for free to the church members because it responds to the falsities (both stated and implied) that are contained in the billboard display that the pastor chose to post to the public earlier in the week, and in the interests of fairness, you are inviting the church members, including the pastor, to review the Catholic perspective.

I would also mail the tract to the pastor of this church, and to all who sit on its board, stating your objections.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

But, as to falsehoods-- I ignore them.

Maybe you ignor the falsehoods because you are afraid of the truth.

I ignore them because they are FALSE. I am not afraid of the Truth, I have the Truth.

Well , the local newspaper called today and we ( my wife and I ) had written a Letter to the Editor for the local newspaper. It will be printed and will be in tomorrow’s newspaper! Also one of the journalist called and wants to do a story on this and was speaking with the wife about it. She told him about her upbringing , raised in Catholic school , taught by nuns , the whole deal. I dont know if the Story will be in this weeks or next weeks paper.

He also said he called that Church and asked to speak to the Pastor , but the Pastor was gone to Mexico. But he did speak with the guy who makes the signs and tha guy told him " With all the coverage on Catholics lately about the Pope dieing and another one being elected , we thought we should tell the truth about the Catholic Church" The journalist also called our Preist to get some answers from him

I think I’ll do a lot of praying for the people of that church!

I guess this response is what you might call a “hit and run”. Unfortunately for our Baptist friend, - he appears to have punched himself!

on a church in a neighboring town the bill board read

" Catholicism teaches that infants are born again through baptisim"

that really disturbed me and my wife. I recently converted , she has been a Catholic her whole life and we’ve never heard such things.

Another time he had " Catholics are not Christian"

How do the rest of you practicing Catholics deal with the prejudice?
What is the deal? Why would some church put stuff like that up on a billboard?? Why don’t they just teach what they believe instead of openly bashing the Catholic church?

I’d say you did a fine job! Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and it sounds like the sun is about to shine on their little, bigoted world!
