False Prophet in revelation t.v./hollywood?

The false prophet who does signs and wonders to decive seems to me is t.v./hollywood with its promotion of anti-christian values, glamorizing the occult, murder, sex, ect,. Also I think the whore of babylon is the statue of liberty in new york (babylon is america) since eygpt and babylon were at one time the hight of Occult practices and sexual immorality so has america become in like manner. Anybody else feel that way?

I think the Book of Revelation is continually getting misused to make predictions of the future. This is a slippery slope because everyone out there has the answer or the secret Bible code. I believe the book was written to strengthen the Christian communities that were being persectuted at the end of the first century. I agree with many scholars that Babylon was probably a coded word for the city or Rome (at the time). Chapters 4,5,19,21 and 22 show Heaven and Heavenly worship, involving Jesus (the Lamb) and God the Father and all the angels and saints. I do believe the overall message of the Book of Revelation is encouragement to those Christians on earth at the time and to all of the Christians in the future.

I also worry… but I seriously doubt that America is the end-of-times Babylon. It IS the center and promoter of the “culture of death”. But let’s worry about that, not the end of the world.

Remember good old Pope Leo XIII? He saw a vision where God gave the devil one century of extra power in the world to prove that nothing can destroy the Church. After seeing this vision, he composed the St. Michael prayer in no time at all(because he was so afraid for the people who’d have to deal with this) and ordered it to be instantly sent to everybody so that they may be protected from this evil. The century the devil had was the 20th. So all we are feeling is the aftermath. The problems of today are by no means apocalyptic, just a result of the devil being alive and well in the world today.

Peace be with you. I agree that Hollywood promotes a great deal of immorality. But the Statue of Liberty? Come on now, where do you get that idea?

As for the culture of death, well, arent we forgetting the bloody wars that go on in almost every country in the world, the genocide in the Sudan and Somalia, the drug wars in South America, the abuse of innocent women and children in the Middle East, the trafficking in prostitution which occurs internationally…why single out America as the purveyor of the “culture of death?” How about starvation which occurs across the globe because of oppressive governments? And the endless, endless, pouring of our resources that God gave us into fouling the environment and building more and more weapons to kill more and more people. I know that when people refer to the culture of death they are usually talking about abortion. Of course abortion is a great evil, but how about taking care of pregnant women and helping children after they are born, and stopping senseless war that takes women, infants, children and young people before their time!!! We are called to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and clothe the naked, not worry about some sort of obscure symbolism that may exist in the Statue of Liberty. And as far as I know there is no consensus on what the book of Revelation really means. Why not stop worrying about the signs and portents that may or may not indicate the end of the world and devote ourselves to doing whatever good works we are called to do. God bless you.

Because God gave us the Book of Revelation, like all of Sacred Scripture, “for the sake of our salvation”. And He told us: “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear [understand] it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” (Rev. 1:3) Did you consider that seeing the prophecies being fulfilled might give us more motivation to do all the good works that God has called us to? I know it’s motivated me!

You’re getting warm (Rev. 13:15). Keep in mind, a beast in prophecy is a nation (kingdom, empire). Babylon is a city - an apostate city. And the Statue of Liberty is innocent! Although you could say that NYC is a Babylon. Keep seeking the truth, without neglecting good works.

the measuring rod is to count all the believers in the church as this is where people go to worship God.

42 months is 1260 days is 3.5 years and 1260 days is 42 months is 3.5 years. These are very important numbers representing specific dates for the end of the earth. Also, notice that in the verse, the number is doubled. This means that God has established this and it will shortly come to pass. Though it is given first as 42 months, then as 1260 days, the amount of time is the same, and means that it is established.

This is called comparing scripture to scripture.

Then Satan, the false prophet, the beast, is given authority to overcome the saints, and the two witnesses are killed.

The saints would be the church, as the saints represent those who believe in God, the two witnesses already are established as the church, and they are killed when satan is given authority to overcome the saints. again, this is repeated in parabolic language, it is established, it will come to pass.

I understand what you’re saying, but it’s something like 50 million babies that have been aborted in America since the 70s. The whole idea is that all of these other things you mention are considered by the vast majority of people to be wrong, but also many cannot understand this about abortion. And sure, it’s not only America, but America does have a huge cultural influence over much of the world, and such ideas spread easily. That’s what makes it so scary and sad. We need to, with God’s help, try and solve all of these things, but cannot do everything at once.

Also we can see that the OP feels very strongly about American society and its problems. That’s more of what we’re focusing on, that’s why I brought up abortion because it’s very relevant and specific to America right now.

Back to NYC being Babylon: That’s not true at all because there are good people in the city. I’ve met soooo many of them! And I guarantee that something as beautiful and so full of the Glory of God as St Patrick’s Cathedral would crumble in such a place as this Babylon (which, like I said before, seems like a big misunderstanding of Revalation)

This is false. The contents of the Pope did involve devils, but not like that. The Prayer to Saint Michael is a form of minor exorcism, used to dispel the demon and his power over souls. However, nothing beats the Sacraments of Confession and of the Eucharist.

Babylon is code for Rome, and Rome is a type of the enemies of the Church, just as Emperor Nero is a type of the antichrist.
