"Philadelphia Catholic school teacher Bernard Shero, who was falsely convicted in 2013 along with the late Rev. Charles Engelhardt in a high-profile trial for child sex abuse that never occurred, is finally going to be a free man.

After being falsely accused of sex abuse by a lying drug addict named Danny Gallagher, Shero will exit prison after serving four-and-a-half years of a maximum 16-year sentence."

Anti-Catholicism seems to run deep in Philly by the comments made about the case. Not surprising, really, but sad, very sad. I hope Mr. Shero can resume his life in peace. But if it were I, I’d move out of PA double quick.

Anti-Catholicism runs deep just about everywhere in the Western world. It is driven by secularism, which harkens back to the French Enlightenment.

True, but there seem to be more virulent pockets of it in various places, especially on the east coast where Puritanism first took root.

Excerpt:

**After conducting numerous interviews with Gallagher himself and the people closest to his case, Walsh made his decision: “I concluded that this information was a lie.”

Of course, Shero’s release did not come without a catch.

Based in part on Detective Walsh’s stunning information, Shero had appealed for a new trial.

And prosecutors knew that the judge in the case was likely about to grant him one.

Prosecutors also knew that a new trial would expose the fraud that they themselves had perpetrated; so they struck a deal with Shero. In order to obtain his release, Shero had to agree to plea no contest to crimes he never committed. **

There is that. On the other hand, I live in Oregon, one of the most, if not the most unchurched states. And our “wonderful” governor has just signed into law a provision for putting something in the range of $500,000 to make sure undocumented individuals can get a free abortion.

I am sure Margaret Sanger is proud of her.

I’m not sure about anyone else, but I read the full article and have no idea what you’re emphasizing here.

If you Google the priest and read articles from sites that aren’t dedicated to “debunking” Catholic sex abuse, you’ll see that the “falsely accused” claim is quite a leap.

Not that he wasn’t, but it’s not an assumption anyone should feel comfortable making.

We have the best Archbishop in the U.S.! Move? No way.

I spent a little time reading google results looking for evidence against Father Charles Engelhardt other than testimony from the discredited Mr. Gallagher and I didn’t see any. Do you have some evidence to cite? Note that I am seriously interested. I am not criticizing you.

I only meant that Mr. Shero might want to consider moving away, after the ordeal he’s been through, and the prosecution still denying any misfeasance in the case, not that every Catholic in PA should move out of state. 😉

Or somewhere outside of Philly.
